  • In regards to my previous post, the issue has been resolved. It seems I was just a bit hasty in getting AIM Presence to work. After it is activated, it took a few days before the service began detecting my online status. Just FYI for those who may come across the same experience. Thanks for the plugin, CalEvans!

    @calevans:

    Thanks for developing this useful plugin, but I use Gaim to connect to the AIM network and have not been able to get the AIM Presence status to display when I am online since they stopped using the beta key. Do I need to use the official AIM program for this to work or have I got something set up wrong? Thanks.

    My goal is to have this site up and running properly by 2006, so I’ll try disabling some plugins to see if it’s a plugin conflict. If nothing else, I’ll reinstall WP 2.0 final from scratch when it’s released. I’ll report back here with what I find.

    @moshu: I was referring to the userbase of Internet Explorer for Windows users…

    I didn’t know IE on Macs rendered pages differently than IE on Windows. That would seem to make it pretty useless when compared to other browsers… I can understand why some people are happy about this news ?? Thanks for the info!

    @kafkaesqui: How can a stable 2.0 release come so soon if this is still an issue?

    I’ve seen the WYSIWYG editor working at wordpress.com, so surely they’ve got it working already…

    @hallsey: Yes, there should be more than just quicktags because the rich text editor is enabled but the WYSIWYG editor does not appear.

    @vkaryl: I’m using Firefox, and I have the same problem in IE.

    The WYSIWYG editor that should appear when ‘rich text editor’ is enabled is the same as the one available at wordpress.com, right? That’s what won’t show for me. Thanks for the input guys!

    I’m not a Mac user, but I’m curious. How will Mac users preview their webpages for visitors who use IE5+ if they don’t develop it anymore? I’m not a big IE fan either, but isn’t it still important to have a site that visitors can navigate in IE considering it still has an enormous userbase?

    It would be nifty if someone could write some kind of generator app which could take input in the form of a plugin function call and output it as wrapped code automatically. Just a thought… ??

    I figured it out. Replace everything in parentheses on line 37 with this:
    '<a href="https://aim:goim?screenname=YOURSCREENNAME"><b>online</b></a>.'
    Highlight this post to view the entire code above.

    Surely someone knows how to do this. I tried to edit the code myself, but it only resulted in a parsing error and having to delete the plugin manually. I’ve reinstalled it, but still can’t figure out how to link my online status. If someone proficient in PHP is willing to take a look at the plugin source code linked to a few posts up I would be most grateful. Thanks again!

    Is there any way to modify this plugin so the word “online” links to the AIM program by opening a new message window when someone clicks on it? I’d like someone to be able to click the word “online” and be able to type a message to me. Thanks!

    Okay Beel, you got me :). For anyone who may find this helpful, WP 2.0 b1 does NOT search pages without the help of a plugin, such as Jerome’s Search (Google it for link- doesn’t seem to work at the moment). Also, Jerome’s Search seems to conflict with Livesearch, such as used in the K2 theme, by not displaying the search value in the header of the results page. Just FYI.

    Sorry about the link, I couldn’t get his site to open either so perhaps it is down. Here is the description for the plugin as seen in the Plugins Site Admin panel:
    “Extends WordPressa€? search to include post excerpts and meta values. Also adds page searching from David B. Naglea€?s Search Pages plugin.”

    @beel:
    “You are running the beta – does it do what Jerome’s plugin does?”
    I don’t know. I am asking if WP2.0b1 already includes the improvements to the search engine described in the above plugin.

    Thanks!

    Unfortunately, my previous plans to solve this problem fell through, so it still remains. Can someone please help me? My sidebar looks CRAZY!
