In reply to: Anyone using Dreamhost?DreamHost is awsome. Been using them for quite a while and while it takes a day sometimes to hear from their support, they are usually quite good.

In reply to: nofollow support added?I like the fact that it is on by default. How do I know if someone commenting is just commenting for the pagerank (which makes it pretty much comment spam)? If someone’s site turns out to be very good, I add them to my links list and blog about it.
A simple plugin can disable it or add more options to it.
It will at least cut some of the incentive to comment spam. It is just a tool to combat it, just like all the other tools we are using. By itself it might not mean much, but all together we are giving spammers a much harder time comment spamming WordPress blogs.
That is what matters most.

In reply to: Nofollow Plugin for WordPress 1.2I like the way LiveJournal is doing this, by letting “friends” have their links with no “nofollow”.
This can partly be done by allowing registered users to post comments with links without “nofollow” added. For those who just post comments and not register, perhaps after x approved comments (say 5) “nofollow” will not be added for that poster’s comments.
Another good idea is to put “nofollow” onto links for a period of time, then get rid of it (this assumes that a spam comment will be deleted at some point).
I think a combination of all of the above needs to be done and that there should be some kind of default (not the status quo!) in WordPress. It doesn’t have to be as extreme as some blogging services adding “nofollow” to every comment, but it should be at least enough that by default the incentive to post a spam comment on a WordPress blog is not as good as it is right now.
It isn’t perfect, but it is a good step and properly designed into WordPress it could really help our fight against comment spam.

In reply to: Why did YOU choose WordPress? My choice of WordPress (after using MT briefly) came down to this:
1. Fast (PHP and MySQL)
2. Easy to use (MT can be very confusing)
3. Able to customize easily (it’s all PHP…even though I don’t know that at all, it is a hell of a lot easier then learning Perl).Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Rewritting old URL’s to newShouldn’t it be the same though? After all, all it is is redirecting links. .htaccess shouldn’t (as far as I can tell at least, with my knowledge of this stuff 0 out of 10) care what the redirected links are for.

In reply to: Forum password issueExcuse me while I kick myself in the head repeatedly.
Helps if I actually used the right username. I came across an old post of mine using this one. Interesting, so I tried the password and it worked. Guess I tied this login to this particular e-mail address. Thought cgonyea went to this address instead. Oh well.
I am so stupid. Disregard this whole thread.Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: Help with 3 Columns…Download Mozilla Firefox 0.8 instead of the Mozilla suite. Firefox is a browser only version that is much more lightweight. Same rendering engine that the Mozilla suite and Netscape use, so if you try it once there is should work on any Mozilla-based browser.

In reply to: RSS, Atom, etc.Oh I didn’t realize this, all I saw was the one link on the default template that pointed to the RSS 2.0 file.
Thank you!
