In reply to: [Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades] Network Error (tcp_error)As with “Need Help Now”, my advice is the same. You should contact your hosting company to find out why the requests are timing out.

In reply to: [Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades] Folder already ExistsFor anyone that has to provide FTP, SFTP, or other kinds of credentials when installing plugins or themes, upgrading will only be supported if you update your wp-config.php file to contain these credentials. The details on how to do this can be found here.
I should note that I am unable to provide assistance on properly setting these settings as the required settings are specific to the configuration of your hosting account. You can test the settings by trying to install a new plugin or theme. If you are prompted for credentials, the settings were not correct.
I’ve tried to find ways to bypass this over the years, but so far, I’ve been unable to. I just came up with some new ideas that I’ll try out today. Hopefully I’ll have good news to report soon.

In reply to: [Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades] PHP NoticeThe error is coming from the custom-facebook-feed plugin and not easy-theme-and-plugin-upgrades. You will need to contact the authors of the custom-facebook-feed plugin.
Sorry for the confusion. The process changed a bit in WordPress 3.9. I’ve updated the “Upgrading a Theme” section of the plugin’s main page to have details about 3.9.

In reply to: [Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades] Folder already ExistsI could keep asking questions all day to try to figure out the issue, but I think the only way to really find out what is happening on the site is for me to have access to the site and run some tests. Is this possible?
If so, I’m @chrisjean on Twitter. I’m following @michaelgobbers now. You can direct message me your email address so that we can pass details privately.

In reply to: [Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades] Folder already ExistsAnswers to a few questions could help narrow down a potential cause:
- Where is your site hosted?
- Does WordPress prompt you for FTP, SSH, or other type of login details in order to install plugins and themes?
- What active plugins are on the site?

In reply to: [Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades] Folder already ExistsSorry for the trouble. The issue was that they removed the hook that I was using for integration into the uploader in 3.9, and I failed to notice the change. As you mention, the latest version of the plugin fixes compatibility with WordPress 3.9.

In reply to: [Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades] Folder already ExistsI need to update that text for 3.9. It’s a bit different now. Go to Appearance > Themes, click the “Add New” button at the top of the page, and then click the “Upload Theme” button at the top of the page.

In reply to: [Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades] Folder already ExistsAre any notices shown at the top of the page, such as:
The Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades plugin was unable to handle requests for this upgrade. Unfortunately, this setup may be incompatible with the plugin.
You must select “Yes” from the “Upgrade existing theme?” dropdown option in order to upgrade an existing theme. Try again.
Unable to make a backup of the existing theme. Will not proceed with the upgrade.
Unable to initialize WP_Filesystem. Will not proceed with the upgrade.
Unable to remove the existing theme directory. Will not proceed with the upgrade.

In reply to: [Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades] Network Error (tcp_error)I noticed that you posted about the same message before. Since that too was related to uploading content to the site, it is likely that your server configuration is preventing the process from completing. For instance, it could be that the PHP timeout is very low, resulting in WordPress not being able to finish installing the theme update. It definitely seems that you need to talk to your hosting company about the issue as I believe that only they will be able to resolve it for you.

In reply to: [Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades] Network Error (tcp_error)In terms of the message you posted earlier, is that message all you see on the screen? In other words, do you see the WordPress admin screen with that message displayed or simply a white screen with that message?
Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades] Folder already ExistsThe “Destination folder already exists” message comes from WordPress since by default it will not overwrite an existing directory, which is what this plugin is meant to help avoid.
For those experiencing this problem, when installing the update, are you prompted for FTP or similar details in order to complete the installation?

In reply to: [Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades] Network Error (tcp_error)Based upon the error message, it sounds like you are on a Windows server.
There are two possible causes of the issue:
- The site that provides the update files for the theme is having problems.
- Your server blocks requests to some sites or is otherwise having connection details.
Is the theme one from www.ads-software.com or did you get it somewhere else?
If the theme is from somewhere other than www.ads-software.com, you should contact the provider of the theme.
If the theme is from www.ads-software.com, you should contact your hosting company to ask about what could cause the update downloads to fail.
