Thanks, Ojoma, but custom code is going beyond what I want to do at the moment. I’ll pass on your message to the developer of Visual Link Preview.

In reply to: [Visual Link Preview] No link in Mailpoet emailsThanks. I’ve asked Mailpoet for their input. I’ll let you know once I’ve heard back from them.

In reply to: [Visual Link Preview] No space between image and text in mobile Portrait modeNo worries. I just thought it was a bug, that’s all, or an issue with a particular browser (I’m using Safari), because it wasn’t consistent with the landscape view.

In reply to: [Visual Link Preview] No space between image and text in mobile Portrait modeThanks, that works. But wouldn’t it be better to add it to the plugin, for everyone’s benefit?

In reply to: Confused about “Show comments cookies opt?in checkbox”Interesting. I thought the front-end checkbox was available before that, but I guess that’s nearly five years ago, so maybe not.
Thanks for digging into this for me (and maybe others).

In reply to: Confused about “Show comments cookies opt?in checkbox”Thanks, bcworkz. Doesn’t sound like it’s worth logging that ticket.
I was just trying to understand the history of the change and why there was a disconnect between the names. Obviously, it’s not that easy to get to the bottom of.

In reply to: Confused about “Show comments cookies opt?in checkbox”That’s odd. Hasn’t that feature (the ability to choose whether to save name and email address for future comments) been around for a long time, before GDPR? Or maybe it was available as a Jetpack feature, not WordPress core?
It also seems odd to me that it was added due to GDPR.
If there was no checkbox on the front end to be able to save name/email, surely no cookies were saved and there was no need for any GDPR compliance.
Unless, of course, as I’ve said earlier, WordPress was saving cookies without visitor knowledge and this was a (roundabout, non-explicit) way of getting their consent.
The problem I have with the two different UI labels is that:
- The Admin one focuses on cookies and doesn’t make it clear what it will do on the front end (allow users to save their name and email address for future comments)
- The front-end message focuses on saving name and email address, but doesn’t explicitly mention cookies. This doesn’t seem like an overly GDPR-compliant message to me, because it’s not explicit about how it’s achieving the feature. But maybe, in combination with a privacy policy that is explicit, it is enough.
I might be missing something, but this just doesn’t quite add up to me.

In reply to: Confused about “Show comments cookies opt?in checkbox”That is helpful, thanks. There just seems to be a bit of a disconnect between the stated purpose of the setting (in its name in Admin) and the text that appears in the comment form. It feels like something that has been repurposed (and possibly also renamed in Admin) for GDPR purposes.
Sorry, I can’t yet, because the site is still in maintenance mode. I haven’t launched it yet.
Basically, when I turn on the setting “Show comments cookies opt-in checkbox, allowing comment author cookies to be set” (under Settings > Discussion), no checkbox (“Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment”) appears in the comments form under my posts.
Note: I’ve tried turning off nearly all of my plugins (bar Mailpoet, which I didn’t want to have to reconfigure) to see whether any of those were interfering with it, but that made no difference. No checkbox is visible in the comments area.

In reply to: [WPS Hide Login] cPanel Maintenance ModeThanks, Maxime.
I asked my host, and they said they could only speculate, but the reason Maintenance Mode is probably overriding WPS Hide Login is because it’s an external function that uses .htaccess rules to redirect to a static HTML page.
They suggested using a “coming soon/maintenance” plugin, which I’m doing.

In reply to: [Meow Gallery] Ideal image size? Thanks, Val. I have installed both the gallery and the (Meow) lightbox plugin.
I just wondered whether there was a recommended width that would work well zoomed but wasn’t the full-sized original image (a balance between resolution and file size). No worries, I’ll experiment.

In reply to: [SlimStat Analytics] No country or city being trackedI didn’t have access to my host’s file manager this morning, so I enabled the plugin and just clicked the Uninstall Geolight button in the Maintenance tab. I can access the site from my smartphone again now.

In reply to: [SlimStat Analytics] No country or city being trackedThanks, Jason. I did that, and the toggle on the Maintenance tab showed that the DB was now installed, but I’ve had no hits logged since.
Also, this morning, when I visited my site on my cell phone, I couldn’t see anything; just a blank page. I could see it on my desktop computer at work, though.
A friend of mine reported that he when he visited the site, on either his phone or laptop, he couldn’t see it. I’ve since turned off the plugin and he says he can see my site again.
Any idea what might be causing that?
I think I’ve figured out that the widths are as follows:
* featured image (with a sidebar): 840px
* text column (with a sidebar): 600pxLet me know if I’m wrong!
