I’m thinking there’s something wrong someplace, but it may be a function of the sequence in which things have been done.

My main site, https://thesenioragent.com, has the wp mu dm in settings, but the site I cloned it to, asa-template.thesenioragent.com, does not have domain mapping showing up in settings. This site was created prior to my installation of wp mu dm – is that the reason?

    Thanks again.

Thanks for your amazing reply above. Unfortunately, I’m ‘one of them’ who knows just enough to screw things up, but not enough.

In that light, my question revolves around the domain mapping plug-in. If I’m understanding correctly, everything I’m reading is telling me to manually upload the plug-in, which I have no issue with.

I just wonder if there are any domain mapping plugins that you would recommend over others? I’m looking at the tutorial at https://fronterahouse.com/blog/ultimate-wordpress-multisite-domain-mapping-tutorial/ and it is explaining things in a way that penetrates my thick skull. They are talking about the WordPress MU Domain Mapping Plugin – that one okay in your opinion?

Hopefully the final question – if I am reading it correctly, whilst this will be a network-wide install and activation of the mapping plugin, it won’t have any effect re Cloner if I do not configure it on the sites I will clone?

So, thesenioragent.com is my main site where I will upload the plugin to, asa-template.thesenioragent.com is the site that I will clone for the rest of the sites, so the plugin will not be configured there, and all other sites that I wish to have function under their own domain name (such as how I have seniorsrealestate.ca now forwarded to seniorsrealestate.thesenioragent.com) will have the mapping plugin configured on them. Am I correct?

Thank you so much. From when I first dealt with you guys 6 months ago, you have been absolutely amazingly helpful, to the point I gave Nick SuperAdmin access to my sites when he asked for it!!

Fascinating. I spent 9 hours looking for solutions, and finally found something that appears to work – sharing it here in case someone else has the problem and looks here. Answer was to set permalinks to default, as in this thread: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/500-internal-server-error-5

Cannot understand why that would make any difference, but hoping it solved it – the site comes up now, and the template and site cloned off the template also come up. Now I’ll try re-forwarding the domain to the cloned template and keep fingers crossed.

After reading many of the posts here, I wonder if the similarity of domain name and sub-domain makes/made any difference. Also, when I first created the site seniorsrealestate.thesenioragent.com, I used capitalized words in the title, and title was very similar – contained the same words as the site address.

The other thing I notice is now when I type thesenioragent.com into browser bar, the www. gets added – it didn’t before. Also, if I remove the www. and add the login.php to it, I am able to log in. I cannot log in with the www. in place.

I sent the log file through.

The installation was moved from a different server. I cannot figure out how to check the uploads folder location reflects the current physical path of the installation.

Nick from your company was in the back end of my site the other day and said everything looked right, though he was just looking into the source of the error messages generated when cloning (they were memory based, and fixed)

I don’t have the folder you referrenced. In the public_html, there is a ns-cloner-pro that has a log file dated today and in the public_html-mu there is a folder with log dated a month ago.

I just did the clone today, and ended up copying the files from public_html to public_html-mu

    Please advise

Oh, sorry, I forgot to update. I had to copy the files for the 3 months since the site was created and also go in and re-upload the files that are part of the theme and re-place them.

I will send the log files, as I don’t want to have to do that for every time I clone a site.

    Thanks

    Master Site = https://TheSeniorAgent.com
    Copied Site = https://template.thesenioragent.com/

Images did not copy across during the clone, “blogs.dir” does not exist in wpcontent in original site but does in clone

    Thanks

Fixed it. Two-fold problem. First was some code that had been added to .htaccess. Lucky I worked on site on both laptop and imac so could still access file.

Second was that my main install was already a sub-domain. Solved it by just opening another hosting account.

Thank you Tobias. You are so wonderfully prompt, courteous, and helpful!

Once you responded, you gave me a different thing to search for in trying to figure this out. – the missing function. A month ago, you responded to a question and the person installed a child theme, which then made things work due to an update in the theme. So, I deactivated jQuery, installed the child theme with the update, and everything worked, except my google maps plugin. So, I reactivated jQuery Updater and now google maps works and so does the search in TablePress.

You put publishers of paid plugins to shame, so I’m going to donate now.
