In reply to: [wp-admin classic] Doesn't do what it says it doesJust discovered the first main problem besides the appearance, with this plugin. It messes up the Widget interface and makes it unusable. It puts the text into a column about 10 characters wide and all the text overlaps.

In reply to: [wp-admin classic] Doesn't do what it says it doesThe old typeface was Aktiv Grotesk the new one is a type of Open Sans (possibly light)

In reply to: [wp-admin classic] Doesn't do what it says it doesI retract that. Both typefaces are sans serif, however the new one is much thinner and bigger and takes up a lot more space. All the other differences stand.

In reply to: [wp-admin classic] Doesn't do what it says it doesI think you think changing the background to the original shades of grey means it has restored the original appearance.

In reply to: [wp-admin classic] Doesn't do what it says it doesYes I have activated it and I can tell because it changed the background color, but nothing else. There are little lines between some of the blocks but that’s about it. There’s no 3D shadowing under them, the typeface has NOT changed (the old one was a serif font; the new one is sans-serif), the little icons for ‘post’, ‘appearance’ etc are not restored to their old ones (e.g. ‘Posts’ is now a flat grey pushpin, before it had multiple colors and a shadow), the space between lines of text is still bigger, requiring more scrolling to get to the bottom whereas before more text/lines fit on a page, etc etc etc

In reply to: New admin panel 3.8 is terribleI installed the ‘WP-Admin Classic’ plugin. It does not got back to the pre 3.8 look. All it does is chaange the background color to grey and the typeface to black. It doesn’t go back to the original typeface and it does nothing about the gradients or the spaces in between blocks. The type still takes up more space and extends past the bottom requiring constant scrolling. And when you type something the type still does that irritating and distracting shadow-disappearing thing.
I wonder if people even checked out the plugins before copy/pasting the url to them into their messages.

In reply to: New admin panel 3.8 is terribleYou have to now ‘force’ it to be a multi-day event to make it work. It’s not a multi-day event. You can no longer create separate occurrences of each event.
Is there a way to change the typeface in the admin panel back to the original one? Is there also a way to make it dark and the background light , like it used to be?

In reply to: New admin panel 3.8 is terribleI think it’s very telling and sad that you’re discouraging people from adding their negative experiences with the new Admin panel. That is what this thread is about and ‘my problem’. The calendar issue is a minor insignificant one that I discovered after starting the thread, you have latched on to in an attempt to fix something. I would prefer that the actual problem, the admin panel, was addressed.
I don’t get any error message. It just doesn’t save it. When I create a single event, it then saves it. Not sure how to provide a URL to this.

In reply to: New admin panel 3.8 is terribleI tried to add a recurring event and could not, it wouldn’t save it. I have to do it over and over for each month. I used to be able to ‘add another occurrence’ and do it all in one step. I don’t know yet what if any other functionality has been disabled.

In reply to: New admin panel 3.8 is terribleIt’s my calendar

I even had trouble finding my calendar plugin – couldn’t find the plugins on the dashboard, then had to scroll up and down, up and down, looking for it, whereas in the past they all (12) fit on one page. It all just seems so unnecessary

In reply to: New admin panel 3.8 is terribleI have already addressed the plugin fix. It’s not a solution which you would have seen in previous responses in this thread. The overlay creates problems with other plugins as reported by a commenter here, and in the intro to the plugin where they list the problems it creates, ask for help resolving them, and to be notified of others. So it’s only a visual overlay (maybe, at best)= I’m not a developer of plugins and don’t seek to spend my time fixing a plugin that is required because of a seemingly frivolous design change and troubleshoot all the problems it will create. Furthermore I have found some of the functionality in my calendar plugin disabled since the update and this plugin won’t address that. Given that there has been so much negative feedback (some deleted to make it seem less) and no good reason given for making the change, it certainly does seem like you operate in a vacuum.

In reply to: New admin panel 3.8 is terribleI just realized this comment is from a mod so I’ll address it
Have you then considered hiring someone to resolve this for you?
Is this a serious suggestion? Is your ‘improvement’ to WordPress Admin Panel a ‘make work’ project? You spend how much resources undoing a perfectly good interface and I’m supposed to now hire someone to fix the problems you created? This is a website I created, volunteering my time for free, for a non profit organization that runs entirely on volunteer help and collects no revenue whatsoever. So now I’m supposed to in addition to donating my time, hire someone to fix problems that you created for no apparent good reason?
And why remove all the comments that were also suggesting the Admin Panel doesn’t work? I guess if you remove their comments, it’s not a problem.

In reply to: New admin panel 3.8 is terribleI don’t have a ‘local’ blog to test on. I still am not hearing an explanation why this major snafu was created and I have to invest countless hours of my time trying to ‘fix’ it. Is it your purpose to create major problems and then tell people to go and figure out how to ‘fix’ them? If you hadn’t wasted untold hours of time making these inexplicable changes I wouldn’t be having this problem, would I? Tell me again, what problem did this solve?

In reply to: New admin panel 3.8 is terribleYou may want to try this: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/admin-interface-by-avenue-factory
It breaks about sections a little differently
The description of this plugin says ‘restores balance and visual tactility’. If these are known problems why were they created with this ‘update’? I looked at this plugin and it says there are unsolved ‘issues’
Issue list:
RTL Languages are not yet supported!!!
Post edit form turns blue (as a result for fixing https://1?ver=3.8 issue)
Admin bar is not displayed properly on front-end with standard Twenty Thirteen, Twenty Fourteen (updated themes).
and ask for help in fixing them. This is not my private blog, it’s a website I set up for a large organization and I’m not keen on experimenting with and discovering and creating new problems and fielding calls for problems.

In reply to: New admin panel 3.8 is terribleThere are plugins to add 3D back in, ones to adjust color and font-size, etc etc. What this version of the admin dashboard has that the older one did not was, surprisingly, extendability ?? You now have the ability to change it FAR more easily than the old way.
I looked at those two plugins you provided links for and I don’t see anything except variations of white typeface on a dark background. No 3D, no thin space between boxes, no normal typeface that doesn’t take up twice the space and is so thin it’s barely readable. Where’s the black on grey, 3D, narrow space between boxes, old typeface, etc?
I didn’t want to change it before so the fact that it was difficult to do so before is meaningless to me.
How about a ‘plug-in’ for going back to pre-3.8 exactly as it was before, where’s that? It’s no more ‘designing’ your admin panel than you ‘design’ your computer desktop when you configure its colors, sizes, and layout to fit your usecase.
I’ve already spent way more time on this than I have whether you want to call it ‘designing’ or not, I still can’t see what I’m doing in the admin panel. Do I have to search through thousands of plugins to find a way to customize my desktop? NO! How about doing what the previous commenter suggested and providing the ‘go back to 3.7 plugin’.
