In reply to: [GN Publisher: Google News Compatible RSS Feeds] No articles in this sectionRight, the note at the bottom of the rss feed saying it hasn’t been fetched indicates whether or not Google has fetched the feed. Sometimes Google tries, but as you mentioned, is blocked by a firewall.
However, by checking on Pubsubhubbub, you can see that Google hasn’t even tried to fetch it.
Why not? Well, the Publisher Center is, lets be nice and call it a finicky beast. It doesn’t always work the way one would expect it to.
I would suggest trying this – go to https://pubsubhubbub.appspot.com/publish and enter the url for the feed and hit ‘publish’. It won’t look like anything is happening. But give it a minute and then check the diagnostics on it and see if it was able to fetch the feed.
If it did, then head over to your Publisher Center and see if the feed has updated there. If it did, then it should continue to update each time GN Publisher pings it (when you publish a new article).
If it still isn’t updating there, I’d say the next step is to contact Google News Publisher Support. They have not always been on point with their solutions, but it’s worth a try.
Let me know if any of that helps,
Chris

In reply to: [GN Publisher: Google News Compatible RSS Feeds] No articles in this sectionHi Aeternal,
Is the link you provided the exact url that you use in the Publisher Center?
I’m testing it at https://pubsubhubbub.appspot.com/publish by putting the url into that ‘diagnostics’ section and running it. The results are that the feed has not been fetched and there haven’t been any pings.
It should fetch as soon as you save the settings in the Publisher Center (the blue button in the top right corner). You can also trigger a fetch by hitting that ‘refresh’ link next to the section in the Publisher Center. It should attempt a fetch within minutes,
Chris
PS: just to be clear – the problem isn’t directly related to the GN Publisher plugin, it doesn’t add any paragraph tags to the feed, it’s some other plugin adding that,
Chris
Hi King,
That’s always a challenge. Somewhere in your html code there’s an ending </p> tag without a matching start <p> tag – and the validator let’s you know there’s a problem, but doesn’t accurately pinpoint the location.
You can look through the code and try to find it. Perhaps do a search though the text for </p> and then look to make sure there is a starting <p> tag before each one. If you can locate it, you can figure out what plugin is entering that part of your code and ask the plugin author to fix it (or fix it yourself if you have the know how).
Or… do the turning off each plugin and retesting route, to identify what plugin is adding the ending p without a starting p.
It takes some digging to find,
Chris
Hi Tipblogg,
If you don’t mind, let’s start a new thread about the issue you are having.
You’ve added ‘me too’ posts on both the forum here and the Google News forum, so everyone that has participated on both threads gets notified with each new post. We don’t need to bother them with those alerts.
Let’s discuss this on one place on your own thread. I would suggest starting a new post just about your site on the Publisher Help forum – https://support.google.com/news/publisher-center/community?hl=en (click on ‘ask now’ near the bottom of the page to start a new post).
Thanks,
Chris
Hi Tipblogg,
It looks like you are using a plugin to remove the /category/ part of category urls. That tends to cause in issue with GN Publisher. I’m sure there will be a fix out for that in a future version.
For now though, you can use the ‘ugly’ url instead. In your Publisher Center, just use: https://tipblogg.com/?feed=gn&category=business You can change the category name as needed for other categories.
Please try that and let me know how it goes,
Chris
Hi Tipblogg,
What is the url(s) of the feeds that are not displaying posts?

In reply to: [GN Publisher: Google News Compatible RSS Feeds] Add Ping for Scheduled PostsHi Richcc,
Appreciate your posts and thoughts on this. Please update the thread if you find it’s a conflict with Scheduled Post Trigger. The new owners of GN Plugin may be able to figure out a workaround. They will probably check in within a few days and may have some additional ideas,

In reply to: [GN Publisher: Google News Compatible RSS Feeds] Error on XML feed validatorHi Krishna,
I’ve been looking over your feed, site, and the images, and I don’t know why, but it looks like Google just isn’t indexing some of your images. And if they don’t index them, they can’t display them next to your articles.
The GN Publisher feed is working and looks correct, it’s not an issue with the feed.
If you go and look at the images from your site that Google has indexed over the last week, you’ll find some are missing:
https://www.google.com/search?q=site:rnbjunk.com&tbm=isch&hl=en&tbs=qdr:w
for example, it has not indexed adele-festa one nor the never-gonna-not-dance-again one.
Since the problem is not related to the feed nor the plugin, there’s nothing that can be done within the plugin that will help.
I know you’ve posted on the Google News Publisher help forum as well, and I’ll continue to try to help you over there, but honestly, from what I can see and do publically through a forum, I’m not sure why these aren’t indexing,
Chris

In reply to: [GN Publisher: Google News Compatible RSS Feeds] Error on XML feed validatorHi Krishna,
I hate to say it, but Google News Publisher support isn’t always correct.
Can you tell me a little more about the issue you are having in the Publisher Center? Is your publication currently ‘live’ and if so, what are you seeing?
Chris

In reply to: [GN Publisher: Google News Compatible RSS Feeds] Error on XML feed validatorHi RNBJunkie,
The ‘script’ and ‘iframe’ recommendations aren’t errors, just recommendations for the feed to work with the “widest range of feed readers”.
For the purpose of adding the feed to the Publisher Center for Google News though, we don’t have to worry about a wide range or readers, just one. And the Publisher Center ignores the ‘script’ and ‘iframe’ tags – so they aren’t a problem. You can ignore those.
The only ‘recommendations’ you do have to be careful about is when it reports html errors, as those do cause problems with the Publisher Center,
Chris
Awesome, glad that worked ??
Hi Marcus,
It looks like you may be using an seo plugin to remove the /category/ part of category urls.
That causes an issue with GN Publisher, but there’s a workaround – use the ‘ugly’ url in your Publisher Center instead. Like this:
https://noamazonaseassim.com/?category_name=regionalismo&feed=gn
Chris
Hi Andrew,
That’s a known issue. If you remove the /category/ slug, it throws off the way that GN Publisher identifies the url.
There is a workaround though ??
Use the “ugly” url –
https://sample.com?feed=gn&category_name=
Just add the name of your category to the end there. If it’s a subcategory, just use the subcategories name.
Hopefully this issue can be fixed in a future update,
Chris

In reply to: [GN Publisher: Google News Compatible RSS Feeds] Google News app not updatingNo, afraid not Andy. I’ve asked about this and continue to be told to send publishers with this issue to support, but support has not been able to help any publishers experiencing this as far as I know. I’d still suggest contacting them though,
Chris
