Well, crud — I missed one plugin. Registration Magic overrides the FROM field specified in the “send update” plugin. That doesn’t make me happy, but at least I know where it’s coming from.

Isn’t that nice this issue resolved itself without author intervention?

Thank you, so much, for taking the time to reply, xnau!

I finally walked away from this project for a few hours yesterday, and I came to the realization that I can solve the problem by taking a different approach. Good thing, because JavaScript isn’t in my bag of tricks! ??

Your plugin is fabulous and has saved me a ton of time, so thank you for that! Thank you also for putting it out there for free, which enables us to test it without a monetary investment. Presuming my client approves my final product, we’ll be making a donation to keep it going. Oh — and I’ll be rating it, as well.

    Again, thank you!

Well, that was easier than I thought!

I had pdb_single set up and thought it to be the same as pdb_record. They are not, and now I have the ‘record’ page set up.

All is well! Leaving original post and this resolution, in case anyone has the same issue.

After this much trouble, how many users do you honestly think DIDN’T read that guide, @mailpoet?

I’ve tried everything I know to try, including adding and deleting cron jobs with various settings (yes, 15 minutes was one of them), read your support articles and every WP post I can find, tested by duplicating both previously successfully sent and previously unsuccessfully sent newsletters, as well as newly created newsletters, and set and reset and checked and rechecked plugin settings. Newsletters only send after they get hung up at “in the next few minutes” AND I push them manually.

Does anything in the plugin force newsletters to hit MailPoet servers on their way out, for some reason? Because my host swears it’s not them and nothing on this site plugin/update wise has changed. Any other ideas besides “keep recreating your cron job”?

I’m at a loss and frustrated to the point of finding a new plugin, lest I set my alarm for 5 a.m. every day to send the thing out manually for this client.

    (@ciaobellaz)

And now I have also checked with my host who claims there is nothing on their end which would cause this problem.

Tests at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m just sitting there with “in the next few minutes” message.

    Thread Starter Bubbles

    (@ciaobellaz)

After two days of sending each newsletter twice and no response here, I deleted the cron job and re-created it it to every hour:

    49	2	*	*	*	/usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/bin/perl /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/quickinstall/scripts/checkupdates.pl	Edit Delete
    0	*	*	*	*	https://mydomain.com/wp-cron.php?mybiglongnumber&action=wysija_cron&process=all	Edit Delete

Then Friday and today, it didn’t send at all. I re-created the cron job AGAIN, set for every hour, and set a test to send at 2 p.m. It’s now 3:30 p.m. and the plugin says it should send “in the next few minutes.” It’s been like that since 2 p.m.

I’ve tripled checked my settings, re-saved my settings, and test emails and “send immediately” newsletters go through just fine.

    Any suggestions?

Ahhhh … well, that makes sense, since size does matter and all that. ??

    Thank you, @shareaholic!

Hi, Shareaholic! I would like that “if” there is a Yoast image set, Shareaholic use it; “else,” pick up the featured image. So I think that is YES to the question as you phrased it.

And, in a perfect world, if neither image is set, it can either show me no image (which would alert me to set one of the two), which I think would be a default action already, yes?, or it can pick up the first JPG or PNG on the page (there is always at least one on a page).

Thanks for responding, MailPoet! We only have two cron jobs on this site …

    49	2	*	*	*
    /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/bin/perl /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/quickinstall/scripts/checkupdates.pl

    0	7	*	*	*	https://DomainNameHere.com/wp-cron.php?LongNumberCopiedFromMailPoetHere&action=wysija_cron&process=all

@op: This is a terrific plugin, and support is fabulous (always responsive)! Even with this problem, the pros outweigh this one con (which has always been there; every now and then, I look to see if a fix is posted). Since my slides are images and not infogaphics, for example, I can afford to overlook it, though I know not everyone has that luxury. I’ve read elsewhere the problem is inherent in the BxSlider code. Have you tried any of the other slider types, to see if the problem exists with all of them?

@supsystic: All of the sliders at NaturesFolio.com under Galleries are using BxSlider. If I recall correctly, once I reach 10 or 12 slides, any re-ordering of slides I do doesn’t stick. I did do some custom formatting, and thought that may be the problem, but if others are having it too, then I’m thinking it’s not me.

I certainly understand the need to respond to a negative review (which response I note is three weeks later), but that’s quite the condescending reply, Video Whisper Plugin Author. Putting the fault back on the user or her web host doesn’t change the facts, however.

    — Since no one else reported it and you haven’t seen it previously, I infer that you’re saying it didn’t happen. I assure you it did. If that’s how you determine whether or not issues are valid, I’m glad I’m not in need of your support.

    — From your final comment, I infer that you’re saying I can’t successfully click a couple of buttons and choose a few options for a plugin or that I’m not competent in the use of WordPress and installing plugins. Again, I assure you that’s not the case. Bashing me and my hosting and placing blame elsewhere does nothing for ongoing development of your plugin, does it?

Frustration notwithstanding, I only take the time to leave reviews when I am incredibly pleased or disappointed with a plugin. With yours, disappointment prevailed despite that it was only activated for a short period. Users should be made aware of any plugin which takes unexpected action, especially when those actions are without notification.

As a competent WordPress user of 9 years, I stand by my review.

I can’t see the picture you’re talking about, but had a problem with Google Plus shares. I’m still not sure what actually caused the problem, but it’s working now.

If you don’t have a Featured Image set, trying setting one, and see if Shareaholic picks up the image you want.

If you’re also running Yoast SEO on your site, try deactivating, and see if Shareaholic shares as you want.

If you’re using a custom link shortening service with Shareaholic, such as Bitly, try using the default link shortener instead, and see if SHareaholic shares as you want.

    (@ciaobellaz)

P.S. My CSS has a class named “none” that is just “display: none.” That way I can insert comments to myself, like a bunch of asterisks marking a spot inside the page code or content I know I will set to display tomorrow, but leave it hidden for today. You need to specify that the code noted above shouldn’t display, or else it will …

And, yes, I know it’s bad form to insert body tags inside the body — but a girl wants what a girl wants. And this one is more concerned with shares on G+ than validating. ??

    Thread Starter Bubbles

    (@ciaobellaz)

Since no one at Shareaholic has replied, I was forced to troubleshoot this myself. Here’s what I’ve figured out:

Bitly: I realized after posting that I had updated Bitly’s DNS info on my custom link shortening domain per an email I received from Bitly advising they were upgrading servers. I don’t know if this caused the problem, and Bitly also never responded to an inquiry sent to them, so I may never know. If you’re having problems with any of the social media buttons you have activated in Shareaholic, I suggest trying the default Shareaholic link shortening service and seeing if sharing works.

Featured Image: It was purely by accident that I realized the pages I was trying to share had no featured image (most of my pages do). If you don’t have one set, try setting one, and seeing if share to Google Plus works.

Sidebar Comment: I now realize that setting an image in the Share section of Yoast isn’t picked up by Shareaholic. So it may be the Yoast plugin that’s my problem and not Shareaholic — it’s a chicken/egg thing; not sure if Y is causing S angst or the other way around.

Since I want both plugins and the featured image may or may not be set and I may or may not want the featured image to be the one shared, I’ve added this code to any pages/posts where I want to specify which image Google Plus picks up, and it’s worked for me so far:

    <div class="none"><body itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/Product">
      <h1 itemprop="name">PAGE TITLE HERE</h1>
      <img itemprop="image" src="IMAGE SOURCE URL HERE" />
      <p itemprop="description">TEXT TO DISPLAY HERE</p>
    </body></div>

    Hope that’s helpful to someone.

Thank you, very much, for the tip and quick response, wfasa! That worked. Marking this resolved.

Whether not the code should be whitelisted is a personal preference, I think, because of the scripting. While it IS standard/common and is copied without changes from Twitter/Tumblr, I understand why it was blocked. I’ll leave that decision to the pros. ??
