I would like to do the same thing but I do *not* want to use widgets. Can anyone give me the bit of code I need to do this? TIA

Akismet was not running on the blog btw. The most recent update was perhaps three months ago, and there have been very few changes made since, and none in the last day or two which would have been when these files were being generated (they can’t have been arriving for longer than that or they’d have taken the server down sooner).

Have noted the disable_cache trick, but would really like to know *why* this happened.

Blog is at notsheep.net. It’s hosted with a friend, who actually noticed it last night (that’s how I know when the problem started – I didn’t know until this morning) and tried to contact me then. They weren’t doing any maintenance or anything like that either, and are as baffled as I am.

I’m not concerned about spam getting published – so far, none has. I’d like to stop it from hitting my blog in the first place. I’m finding that I’m spending far more time dealing with spam than I want to; I’d really like to get BB working. I’ve tried changing the name of my comments file – had spam less than six hours later. I’ve tried auto-closing comments on post over 21 days old – I’m still getting spam on old posts (how??!!). Even setting my blog to comments from logged-in users only didn’t work – I *still* got comment spam from non-users. It’s not a case of them using future post IDs – there is no spam in the database for future posts. I am at a loss about what to do next.

Right now, installing Bad Behavior results in errors on every page of my blog, including the admin pages. I’m told this is something to do with the settings on my host – but when I’ve asked which settings those are, I’ve had no reply.

I actually find it much easier to glance through the spam with CJD Nuke Spam. I’m also finding that Akismet misses a lot of pretty obvious spam. It also only shows you 150 spam comments – if you have more than 150, there’s no way to view the rest to check for false positives. Hence, I’m looking for other options. I’ve turned on “users must be registered and logged in”, but even with that, I got spam waiting to be moderated this morning.

The CJD Spam Nuke plugin will allow you to view all spam in your database with one click and delete it all with another click. It’s not completely automatic, but since nobody else has answered this in a week, I’m guessing there is no completely automatic solution – so maybe this is a good-as-it-gets solution for you for now?

But what is the point in having a search box at the top of the page when it doesn’t work?

Clicking on the tags only seems to return one page worth of results too.

What are the settings which are problematic here? I’m sure that my host (run by friends, who also use WP) would be willing to try to change the settings if I can tell them what the problem is.

I’m not the OP, but I would also like to do this, and I do have a “pure” reason ?? – I’d like to put the rss feed from other family members’ blogs in my sidebar. I appreciate that it’s a much-abused capability though.

Couldn’t you use the custom fields for this? You might need to edit your template to add the info under the post title, but I can see no reason why it wouldn’t work.

The host is a small company run by a friend. I have three other WP blogs running on the same hosting system, so I know it’s not a host problem. One of the blogs that’s currently running is even in the same domain, but in a subdirectory rather than in the root.

LOL – just picked up that there were more replies to this thread, and not sure if chimommy has been looking for info re user levels or my new kid, but anyway – baby arrived August 7th, boy (fifth one!), healthy and gorgeous, now 3 months old and a delight ??
