In reply to: Close all comments? Thanks for the help! I did try going to my phpmyadmin and changing the comment_status to closed, but I might not have done that in the right place. I’ll have to check it again, as these spam comments are getting even more ridiculous!
I like to have the legit comments already posted in the past still visible though, so removing the whole comments section may only be a last resort. Of course, I may just tweak the code to remove the comment form for entry. . .

In reply to: Running /wp-admin/install.php HELP :(I know you probably already know this and everything, but I wanted to ask because I recently figured out something very obvious myself, that I was doing wrong (and by very obvious, I mean VERY obvious. Something I am ashamed to say I was messing up Lol) but, the page your trying to use, you’re using your site.co.uk/ whatever your blog is/wp-admin/install.php . . . right? Because that’s where you should go.
I apologize if you already did that, I mean no disrespect. I just had to ask because I’ve done things similar to NOT pointing to the right page ??
And yes, you should rename the file

In reply to: upgrading troubleWell, once again, I need some help, or rather advice.
If I mess with the memory limitations in the file, as they suggested, I risk crashing the server because I have a CPU limit. I can do it, but I’d have to be careful. It’s also something I’ve never messed with before, so I’d have to look into it.
However, I’m hatching another idea. I’m thinking this trouble MUST be something I did because I’m finding it odd that a simple upgrade difference would cause the memory usage problems. So, I’m thinking of wiping everything clean. Taking the posts (and comments) and putting them on my site in HTML format (or something else, not using the database anymore) elsewhere. And starting completely over again. Completely ??
But, do you think such drastic measures should be taken . . . is there anything else that can be tried to solve this problem before I do this?

In reply to: upgrading troubleWell, I was told that the .htaccess file is no longer used. Hmm . . . well they said the PHP scripts are ran as CGI executables, and I should use a php.ini file instead . . . ?

In reply to: upgrading troubleThank you so much for your help Moshu. I didn’t mean to leave you hanging there, but I had to take a break from all this for a while Lol
I remember seeing the file a while back and using it to use my own “404 page not found” However, I think my host might have gone through some changes that probably caused the deletion of the file, so I am checking with them to make sure it is still alright for the file to be used (making sure it doesn’t mess up their servers somehow).
I’ll check back again after I get an answer from them! Thank you again, you have continued to be very helpful!

In reply to: upgrading troubleAw, Well I actually didn’t have any plugins activated to begin with, but I went ahead and made sure none were activated.
So the memory limit might be the problem? I’ve tried finding the .htaccess file many many times, but cannot find it now. I found it a very long time ago, but . . . not now ??

In reply to: upgrading trouble?? Thanks ??
Well I’m using IE6 and it shows version 1.5

In reply to: upgrading troubleThanks,
I still need your help though, I hope I’m not being a bother. Now I’ve done all the steps, but every time I try to view to see the page, or to login to the admin as it says to do to go to options and such . . . every page cannot be viewed really, it wants to download onto my computer before anything else, and be viewed there. Have you come across that before? I’m sure I must’ve messed up somewhere or forgotten something, but I can’t think of anything at all, and can’t understand why it’s doing this. . .

In reply to: upgrading troubleSheesh . . .
Now I can’t download the 1.5 file to upgrade. It says I need to log in, but I’m logged in, even went to my preferences and added my real name, and I have cookies enabled of course. Is something else needd that I’m missing once again?
(EDITED: Is the wordpress-1.5-strayhorn download alright?)

In reply to: upgrading troubleOh okay, whew,
Well I believe I backed the database up (via myphpadmin way), and then I also backed up the wp files onto my HDD through the FTP way

In reply to: upgrading troubleThank you SO much for the help, things don’t seem so frustrating anymore, as long as my simple mind can do things right this time.
I did have a backup, copied all the files onto my HDD (and a disc as well) and will go ahead and revert back to the original and then to 1.5, then to 2.2.2 (you said you never did that though, is there a reason I shouldn’t bother with upgrading to 2.2.2?)

In reply to: upgrading troubleThank you so much for the help. I do apologize I didn’t mention the version I was running before. I’m not sure now how check but it was I THINK 1.2 something . . . It was very old indeed, And I’m upgrading to the most recent (2.2.2 is it?).
As for the steps you linked to, that’s actually what I used. But am still having trouble (with step 9 to be exact).
(EDIT: Wait, I apologize, I FINALLY read all the way to the bottom and noticed that I should upgrade to 1.5 FIRST, and then to the latest. And here I was going to do that, but then thought I read somewhere I didn’t have to. Now I read I do. I apologize. Do I have to revert back to the original version before doing this, or can I just go to start upgrading to 1.5 where I am?)
