I’m having the same problem with the Text widget (running WPMU 2.8.1).
…and deleting the quote marks didn’t work for me. It simply auto-replaces the double quote marks AND adds the backslashes.
I’m guessing the answer is: upgrade. But it ain’t that simple, working in government. It’ll happen, just not today.
