try resetting your settings, this can happen if you have the wrong comment form field names in the settings page or you are using fck editor to add buttons to your form

hmm ok.. perhaps I can add some stuff to the plugin to log some things like referrer and time of comment etc so I can see how this is happening..

it certainly feels like a vulnerability in wordpress if so many people are suddenly reporting the same problem at the same time

I think perhaps there maybe a vulnerability if you’re getting 200 spam a day because GASP only allows 3 comments in moderation so if the comments are being submitted normally it wont allow 200 in one day from the same person.

I recommend that you do a security check on your sites

I’ve been running it on one of my high visibility sites that used to get a huge amount of spam and it has dropped that down dramatically. That site has no extra plugins and is working on a default theme after a timthumb vulnerability was found on the premium theme it was using

not sure what to suggest, all my issues went away with the new plugin on multiple sites

I even switched it off for a day to see if it made a difference and I got hammered with over 200 comments over night! I switched it back on and it didn’t get repeated

maybe you have something else going on with another file that has been compromised and they’re using that to inject comments..

hard to say without knowing everything about your blog and plugins and files.

maybe there is a new vulnerability in wordpress 3.6 and that’s how they’re doing it.

I know wordpress now switches on XMLRPC access and doesn’t have an option to switch it off any more

are they comments or trackbacks that are being sent?

try temporarily deactivating your cache plugin and see if that makes a difference

it’s possible that you are getting targeted by human spammers which an anti spambot plugin is not really suitable.

spambots can send hundreds of comments, if you’re getting less than 50 then it’s more likely that you have human spammers creating the comments.

the new anti backlinker module I’m testing for commentluv premium seems to work with humans because it removes the links from the comments and that removes the incentive to spam so the spammers leave me alone after realising there is no value in spamming my site

..but that’s a premium plugin and the module hasn’t been released yet

it’s important to remember that this plugin will not stop comments that just look like spam.

So if you have humans leaving messages that are spammy then it wont stop that.

it is to stop the automated bots that flood your blog with 50-100 comments a day so if you’re still getting spammy comments after installing it then you might be being targeted by human spammers who are interested in the keywords that your blog is good for

you can try switching on the refer check in the settings and see if that works for you but if you’re getting real humans leaving comments then it might not help with that.

the only thing that seems to work for me is my commentluv premium plugin with the new anti backlinker module which removes links from comments until the user has been whitelisted

no links = no incentive to spam

when they see that they get no links then they move on to spamming another site that does give links

sorry I can’t be more help but spam from humans is very difficult to prevent.

@usera – spam coming in with commentluv just means the spammers have a feed on their site so commentluv can find a link

are you getting the comments from the same IP or email address?

have you tried setting the maximum moderated comments to 1?

you might try sending suspicious comments direct to spam instead of moderation too

see if that helps.
