In reply to: plugin update blocks admin dashboard accessA few more details:
I would like to add that I tried the WP recommended solution of renaming the plugin so that WordPress would ignore it, which allowed me to recover the staging site dashboard. This leaves the site somewhat inoperable for users, however, because the site displays as it should look for logged in users, even though the user isn’t logged in, revealing the locked content to all users.
If I change the plugin name back, obviously, the dashboard is inaccessible again.
My main live site currently opens to a plain login, instead of showing the home page.
I originally posted this question, and I didn’t get a satisfactory answer. Looks like you answered another user’s question offline.
My question was that even though the plugin was supposed to show featured images, I was not seeing images from a feed that did have images. The feed displayed with images when I used a different RSS plugin (looking to switch away from my old plugin to WP RSS Aggregator).
Is there a setting in WP RSS Aggregator that determines whether images are shown? Can you point me to that please?
Many thanks.

In reply to: [Membership 2] critical errorAlways a bummer to discover a big issue on a site!
A site I am working on was using Membership 2 when the company WPMUDEV dumped it. I asked the developer of the theme I used for the site (who had provided Membership 2 with that theme) what other membership plugin they recommended. He suggested Indeed Ultimate Membership Pro by WP Indeed.
It has been working okay with the site although the theme developer never generated the promised documentation (I wanted to know the best way to set up the plugin to work best the complicated theme I had purchased).
Indeed Ultimate Membership Pro has not been updated yet for 5.8 apparently, but it does seem to be working on the site.
Other than that plugin, I might suggest Paid Memberships Pro, which I have had good luck with on another site.
Hope this helps.
I attempted to use the 1.2 update today 26 June 2021, and it failed with errors for me, as well. I was updating by clicking the update link in my Plugins list.
I attempted update one more time, clicking the update button inside the Details pop-up, and it updated successfully.
Maybe a coincidence, maybe not.
Hope this helps.

In reply to: [Chamber Dashboard Business Directory] delete demo data after setupHi @lisaksocial –
Good to know. So far, Chamber Dashboard looks like an awesome solution. ??
I’ve had bad luck with demo data in the past (the amount of data was overwhelming and a massive undertaking to delete) – so I moved on with the installation without installing the demo data.
q1: Is there a way to go back and do the install without having to start from scratch?
q2: How much data is in the demo data (hundreds of business, people, media, and other records)?
q3: By the way, what’s the difference between a People record and a WP user?
Your help is appreciated!

In reply to: [GamiPress - Link] Granting points to subscribers onlyHi, and thanks for these recommendations. I haven’t been able to try these solutions out yet – not sure why this was marked resolved.
Subscribers – Buddyboss users (paid users via PaidMembershipsPro)
Customers – default user for WooCommerceI’ll report my results after trying these solutions. ??
–> Reporting back. Tried the first add-on, GamiPress Block Users, added the desired role to block, and it worked. ??
Thanks for your help.

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for directing me to this code. I will give it a try.
I really like PMPPro so far. I have it on two sites, now.
Ha ha – I just looked at my other site that uses PMPPro, and evidently I used a similar code snippet to do the redirect. (Apologies if I asked you about this twice, now.)
Your suggestion of adding the code snippet was a good reminder – again, thanks for your help!

In reply to: Can’t set password for new users@jttennis and @grouse675 I don’t see any WP folks contributing to this discussion and it looks to be a common issue, as far as I can tell.
@cgooderham have you solved this via downgrading?
How do situations like this one get elevated to the WP team?

In reply to: Can’t set password for new users@cgooderham Looks like someone was having difficulty with WP 5.5.1 also, so if you are downgrading, you might consider going to something earlier.
I’d be interested in your results with this.

In reply to: Can’t set password for new usersI am using WP 5.6.
Today, 4 Jan 2021, I attempted to add a new user via Users > Add New.
There is one field for password, which, upon opening the page appears to have a generated password in it, shown with *** . Clicking the Hide button does not reveal the password that was generated.
I entered a new password, but I get an error message indicating that I need to enter the password in both fields —
“Error: Passwords don’t match. Please enter the same password in both password fields.”
There is only one field, so I cannot re-enter the password.
I was able to create the new user account via the front-end, without errors.
The issue is only on the back end.
Could this be a bug in my version of WordPress?
Your help is appreciated.

In reply to: Does this require a child theme?Hi,
Okay, thanks for getting back to me on this.
I was hoping for an easy solution… ??
This site has been having multiple issues so I hesitate to make it more complicated just so I can correct the typos introduced by the theme’s author. I have suggested the typo corrections to the theme developer but have not heard back.
Unfortunately, I do not understand the instructions. I am not a PHP coder.
Some questions:
What do they mean “use these filters”? Use them how? Use them where?
When it says to “follow these steps” am I supposed to add the code to a PHP file, and if so, where in the file is best?
When creating a child theme, is it a copy of the entire theme, or just certain files?
Are the child theme creation plugins safe, or must this be done by hand?
I know these are a lot of questions.
Your help is much appreciated. ??

In reply to: [Background Image Cropper] Didn’t install this – it appeared on its ownAfter hiring an expert to fix the website, it was confirmed that this plugin appeared to be the source of the malware.
Do you suggest I write to [email protected] myself regarding this issue, or have you already reported it to the right team members?

In reply to: how do I report malware in a WP plugin??Hi Steven,
Okay, I could not find it on their page, earlier, but I see it now.
I do believe this plugin should be looked into, due to the damage done to my site and the work that was required to get it back online.
I will use your provided reporting instructions to explain the issue further.
Thanks for your help.
