I tried going from Google Docs to Notepad to WordPress…but the same jumbled block of text appeared in WP.
I did find a work around — open with Zoho Writer, then paste into Notepad, and finally paste into WP in HTML mode. I lost all formatting, but I can now create line breaks and can view the text in a clean format.
