Well, my recommendation is to look at a paid calendar plugin.
I too was frustrated with the ics import and the 4.4 issues. But the reality is that this is a free plugin. It would be wonderful if it worked better, and I would be more likely to pay for a version of it if it did (because I think it is especially visually appealing) but ultimately the developer has no real reason to make timely fixes. His priority is obviously on his paid products, and I think that is ok.
That said, I took a look at paid calendar plugins, and I decided to go with Calendarize It through Code Canyon with the ICS import feature. It cost $46 all told, but since it is a big part of my site I was willing.
It is a bit less smooth on mobile than All In One Event Calendar. But it works. And for now (and in the future) that is more important for my project.
I have no affiliation with them. I am just sharing because Larry_D asked, as I asked a number of days ago.
If you want to see the calendar up and running you can see one of the widgets on my main page and the full calendar (not prettied up yet) here:

I also looked at The Event Calendar plugin but the cost was much higher and I had trouble with the free version displaying full width on my full width template (likely an issue with my theme though).

In reply to: [Timely All-in-One Events Calendar] Conflict with WP itselfThanks for the acknowledgement Ben. I appreciate the hard work that goes on behind the scenes allowing us to use this free plugin.
I can verify that my events table in the DB is empty also, even though the plugin reports numbers imported.

In reply to: [Timely All-in-One Events Calendar] Conflict with WP itselfBenjamin, have you seen the other posts regarding ICS feeds in 4.4? There are other issues happening as well.
Mine is updated to the newest AIOEC and 4.4, and with the 4.4 upgrade my calendar is now devoid of all events, even though the ICS import shows successful. Others are reporting the same issue.

Corey (in the thread above) has done some digging and has a few suggestions regarding the instant_event column on the database. Have you guys looked into this at all?
Add me to the list of completely unusable calendars after the 4.4 update.
In the dashboard. my event list shows a large number of events in the count, but only one item with a checkbox in the list. The calendars on the site are not displaying any events.
We use two .ics feeds from Google Calendar to populate the events. I have removed and re-added the feeds, and when that didn’t work I completely removed and reinstalled the plugin with no success. Events still do not show.
Thankfully we are still pre-production. I was planning to go live this weekend but this has led me to a critical decision point, regarding keeping ai1ec or looking elsewhere.
I hate to ask this here, but for those with trouble – what other plugins or solutions have you found?
I have not re-entered my customization since re-installing the plugin (just colors), but here are my instances of ai1ec that are not working:
Widget on Front Page:

https://stpatricks.thebrownfam.com/news-and-events/calendarThanks Fulvio. I see what you are saying about using the shortcode in the text widget. I switched that calendar into the Simple Calendar Widget and it displays correctly now.
I also updated to the newest beta and that corrected the margins and duplicated locations.
I only see two more things:
1) when the description is listed it breaks the text to a new line. It doesn’t do this for the other fields. It looks like the fields that work correctly are spans, while the description field shows as a div.
2) on the main page of the plugin, I don’t have any calendars listed, though it indicates all (4) / published (4) at the top. After some fiddling it refreshes to show the most recently created one, with the following error in the Events Source field:
Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 68943872) (tried to allocate 256 bytes) in /homepages/16/d573355131/htdocs/clickandbuilds/WordPress/STP_Test/wp-includes/query.php on line 1816
Sorry – that should have been:
[calendar id="357"] <br> <a href="https://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/index.cfm" target="_blank">Today's Readings from the USCCB</a>
Thanks! I will update to the newest beta.
As for the widget with the formatting/display issue – it is a text widget with the shortcode for the calendar followed by some paragraph text and a link. It looks like this:
[calendar id=”357″]
Today’s Readings from the USCCB
It functioned fine on the 2.0 code, though maybe using the shortcode inside the widget isn’t functional in the new code?
Feature request submitted. Thanks for the quick response!
