In reply to: Static Front Page BlogYes, I know it’s bad form to bump such an old post, I just wanted to say that the method that raptorNL posted above for showing the blog posts works a treat with a static front page and WP 2.3.1.

In reply to: 2.3 unreadable pagesThere’s no need to go back to 2.2
I don’t know of any tutorial. However. In you dashboard go to Options -> Permalinks
At the bottom of the page will be the text you need to put in the .htaccess file.
Copy it.
Edit your .htaccess using your favourite method (notepad etc) and ensure that the text in there matches what you copied from the options page.
If still no luck, then as a temporary measure try switching to “default” in the Options – Permalinks page and see what happens.

In reply to: Upgrading : Database ErrorCool. The only thing I can think then is that it’s a plugin doing it. Try disabling them all (see if the error disappears!) then re-enable them one at a time and see which one triggers the error. Try them all as more than one may be causing the error.

Check your .htaccess file for permalinks. I note that the individual post few isn’t working either which would point to this problem.

Good luck!

In reply to: Upgrading : Database ErrorAre you SURE you’ve updated the database since upgrading the files?
The error message absolutely suggests that the DB is out of date.

In reply to: List of Web Host supporting WordPress category permalinks?Category Permalinks are a simple change to the .htaccess on your host.
So, as long as a host supports PHP, MySQL and .htaccess there should be no problem with it.
I believe that HostGator has no issues with this at all.

Should give you lots of information on how to include your blog on your existing website. If I’m reading your question right of course!
It’s not a “page” as such, it’s “the loop”. The article will give you lots of information.

In reply to: HELP ! Just installed – What do I do now ? – Lost in SpaceWhen you installed WP you should have seen a screen that gave you a username and password. I think these will have been emailed to you direct too.
If you don’t have that information then it will be very difficult for you to get it back.
The default user name is “admin” but the password is randomly generated.
To login go to https://www.yourdomain/yourinstallfolder/wp-admin
Should present you with a username/password box. Did you install in the root folder or a subfolder?

In reply to: How do I add a picture and a paragraph?it does work. Are you using the Rich Text Editor? Go into “HTML” or “CODE” mode or turn it off in options – Isers – Profile and try inserting align=”left” or “right” into the img src html.
Of course, it’s dependent on whether the theme you’re using overrides the align action for images.

In reply to: Photo Gallery PluginIt’s quite possible it’s a custom plugin, but for similar effects check out fgallery.

In reply to: Problem with title tagsIt’s not something “wrong”, just a setting or two you need to change.
Have a look in the documentation (docs above) for “permalinks”. You need to set your permalinks to be “friendly” and change the .htaccess file.
All the information is there. I would find it for you but am just killing my machine.

In reply to: installing wordpress on multiple computers for same blogThe first thing to do is find a domain name that you’re happy with and get some hosting. Download the software and get it installed and running. get used to the feel of wordpress, read the Documentation (https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Main_Page) and not get too daunted by it!
Then start playing! :o)
