Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: Import Errorit should be in public_html, whether you have it in a sub-directory like “blog” is up to you. WordPress can work either way.
Personally, if it’s the only thing (or the main thing) on the domain then I’d have it in the root directory.
That’s weird! I have just gone to your domain and clicked through to “blog” and the blog has appeared straight away.
As far as the import itself, I can’t help. Never tried to do it.

In reply to: installing wordpress on multiple computers for same blogGreetz, me again!
Essentially, if you download the software, put it up on hosting and install it, that’s all you need to do.
Wherever you have an internet connection, no matter what PC/MAC you are using you will be able to get to your wordpress install and post/blog.
What do you mena by “work” on it?
Anything you want to do on the blogging side can be done online. If you want to do things like upload plugins, change themes etc then it will depend on your work and if they have blocked things like FTP access. There are ways round it but I don’t like them as they are (in my mind) not secure to the rest of the ‘net.

In reply to: Two Problems – Themes – PublishingI’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.
If re-upping the files doesn’t work then I think you’re gonna have to wait for the programmer and get him to kill off the db and start again.

In reply to: Lost username and password – help!Right. The password at wordpress.com won’t work for your hosted blog.
The cPanel password will only let you into the cPanel, not your self hosted wordpress install.
Have you installed wordpress on your bluehost hosting yet?
I can’t provide private support as I don’t have time I’m afraid.

In reply to: Sidebar Font Size Changes on PagesUh, no. You’ll have to bear with the SMF tech forums I’m afraid.
Of course, you could dump it and get phpBB. But that’s way off topic and I will get told off for discussing it here…

In reply to: Lost username and password – help!Hang on, you’ve confused me.
You have a wordpress.com blog which you can get into and a self hosted blog that you can’t?
Or are the domains pointing to wordpress.com blogs?
Note that if you are self-hosted and trying to use the username and password for wordpress.com that won’t work.
What do you mean by CP admin login?

In reply to: Two Problems – Themes – PublishingOk, tech question, are you on an apache (linux) or IIS (windows) server?
Is there any way your can get your programmer to remove the tilde?
I’m thinking at the moment that the db needs emptied, the tilde needs to go (Don’t know why, just doesn’t feel right) and the wp core files need to be re-uploaded.

In reply to: Lost username and password – help!Did you try using the “lost your password” link on your login screen?

In reply to: Two Problems – Themes – PublishingOk, it’s dumb question time…
When you write the post the default category is ticked yes?
Can you get to the database? Does the post information show up in the tables in the database?

In reply to: I don’t have the editing tools…Ya know, I had a similar problem. I went to where HandySolo suggested and turned off the Rich Text Editor. End of problem.
It means there was an issue with the rich text editor in my install. Re-upload the files or turn off the RTE and ignore it!

In reply to: Sidebar Font Size Changes on PagesIn which case it’s wherever the font tag is called in your theme page. As I said above, it’s probably in single.php that there’s a font tag missing.

Really, due to the timescale I would just ask the wp.com staff. They normally get back to you pretty quickly. using the wp.com service means you won’t have to worry about getting the hosting, installing the software, finding and uploading the theme, finding the right plugin to do the static page thing etc.
It can be done using either method…
