In reply to: Completely new original theme!I don’t like this:
would advise you to begin using a real browser
Whilst I understand that you wish to be standards compliant, can I suggest that you have a look at your stats and see just what percentage of users are still using IE6/5?
Some of us (while surfing from say, work) are stuck with IE. I suggest that you either bite the bullet and put some IE hacks in or kiss goodbye to anyone stuck with IE6 for whatever reason. Certainly I won’t be back (although that’s probably no great loss to you ;] )
For the record by the way, in IE6 the content drops below the sidebar.

In reply to: alignment problems when hitting saveI’m sorry, they are too small for me to see or understand properly. Can you upload a larger version to photobucket and give a link so that I can see?
Or of course, a link to the problem page. ??

In reply to: Error:Could Not find The template functionMy suggestion would be to turn off the Rich Text Editor (TinyMCE).
It’s not a fab application and can cause all sorts of problems.
To do this go to Users and untick “Use the visual rich editor when writing”.
This should get round the problem in the short term.
I suspect this has happened because files were missed when you uploaded the 2.0.5 version of the software and the application is complaining about it.
Hope this helps.

In reply to: alignment problems when hitting saveAlex, can we either have a link to the site where you’re having the problem or a screencap of it so we can see it?
I suspect there’s an easy “fix” but we’d need to see the problem first.

In reply to: Need to know the level of difficultyI wouldn’t use the standard theme, it’s fairly complicated to try for a “first hack”, there’s lots in there.
I would go to one of the theme sites and download a basic theme that “kinda” looks like what you want to use and modify that.
What you are looking to achieve doesn’t seem to hard.
Are you looking to left align it or centre it? I ask because of the overhang for the header image. It’s not difficult to get round, but would be easier if it was inline with the main text.
Are you going to have a sidebar at all?
You don’t need to know loads of PHP, but understanding the_loop, tags and the basic infrastructure will help a great deal. There’s a wealth of information in the codex and I suggest that you have a look in there before you go too far.

In reply to: using wp for main domain and a sub domain, please helpIan, as miklb says above, if you’re using the same database it will cause you problems. Are you looking to run the same information on bothe the domain and sub-domain with different themes, or two separate blogs?
If two separate blogs:
In the wp_config.php file there’s a setting that asks for the table prefix. As standard it says “wp_”.
If you change that for the sub-domain then you can run two separate instances of wordpress using the same database, referencing two different table sets.
Does this help/make sense?

In reply to: How do I change the color and fonts of my website? If you know very little about how wordpress “works” Then I suggest that you start by looking at the Codex and some of the articles on modifying themes. It’s all in there somewhere!

Got any more specific questions after that then please come back and ask! ??

In reply to: spambot registrations–captcha protection?Richard
To be entirely honest, unless you want other people to register (say for author purposes) then I would turn off registration altogether.
Most browsers “remember” details in forms so regular commenters won’t have to fill in details every time.
I have always found Captchas a great way to put off potential visitors/registrants (but that’s an entirely different story!)
UPDATE: I’ve just had a quick look through the codex and from what I can see there are no plugins (yet) for registration captchas or similar.

In reply to: The word “fetch” causing failed postBeing just a little cheeky, can I suggest that you contact your host as suggested in the other thread and then come back and report the results? If the host says it’s not their problem then I am sure that someone will be able to help.

In reply to: Page template missingPage Templates are dependent on the theme that you are using. If a template for a particular “job” has not been defined then it won’t be available to you.
The Pages entry in the Codex should give more information.

In reply to: What kind of plugin is this?It looks like a “sharing” plugin.
In which case, Alex King’s Share This might do the job for you.
