OMG…I got it working! Thanks Alchymyth! Your response helped me to see that I needed to add more code to the second code. I had cut and pasted from code on the homepage, but I had not moved the code that called for the custom field. Being that I know almost nothing about php, I didn’t realize the additional code was needed…but your response helped me to see that code was missing. THANKS A MILLION!

Alchymyth, I reread your response and it helped me figure out the home page image problem. I’ve got it working. I changed “hpbottom” to “thumbnail” and it works great. Now I just need to get the other page working. I am trying to figure it out based on what I just learned…but any more assistance would be greatly appreciated.

It is not the featured image that I want. It is the thumbnail that is attached to the post with a custom field (part of the theme functions). If you look at the website, you will see that it works at the top of the home page for two of the sections, but it does not work on the bottom of that page. At the bottom it just pulls the default image…as it does for the category searches that appear on the archives.php page.

And thanks for your help…this one has me stumped as I’m not a php programmer.

This is exactly the problem I have having. Links work in preview and single post mode, but not on main page. I have looked everywhere in the theme directory for the default.php, and can’t find it anywhere. Is it possible that a theme would not have a default.php?

I am a real neophyte when it comes to PHP code.

Exactly where do I paste the code within the Functions.php file? I cut and pasted the second recommended code and it worked…but I started getting error messages that eventually kept me from even logging into WP. I tried cutting and pasting the first code into the functions.php file and immediately got errors. Am I supposed to be replacing some other code with the code you provided?

Thanks for any assistance you can offer!

Installed WordPress myself so that the database would use the UTF-8 character set…and I still get the same error message. The tables are created in UTF-8. The global char set is still Latin1, but I don’t know if that matters.

I really could use some help if anyone has an idea. I am looking at losing 3 full months of data, and I really can’t afford to do that.

Please help. (God, I sound deperate, but I am.)

Wow, no response again. I have must ask really tough questions because I never seem to get a response. And I really am a nice guy. : )

Anyway, here is what I have found out. If I can’t get this fixed, maybe this will help someone else.

    1) I had to correct the domain name in the database backup because my new URL does not use WWW.

    2) I have to find a way to convert my backup from UTF-8 character set to Latin1. I know this seems backwards, but my new hosting provider installs an old version of WP which sets the database to Latin1…and it can’t be changed. I will upgrade to the recent version of WP, but the character set will remain Latin1.

Anyone know of a conversion generator to changes from UTF-8 to Latin1? I know it exists for the other direction.

Well, my host said it’s a WordPress issue. The other thing I noticed is that the host installation automatically provided a database user name. Again, this name is different that the one that I used with the other host.

I have tried remaining the backup txt file to match the name of the new database. Same error.
