Thank you. The template and stylesheet changes made no difference. Looking more closely I now see the problem is not with Events Calendar but rather with the 2021 theme itself which leaves an empty space displaying only the background image before the footer at the bottom of any page. Since all other pages show the background image behind page content, this characteristic was not noticeable bothersome on any other pages.
