It turned out to be an issue, @samdive – If you want to use GTM to deploy GA code, disable GA snippet insertion in SiteKit. Otherwise you end up sending stats to GA twice.
Hi Renee,
thanks for following up. We have since decided to remove Site Kit and just use Tag Manager exclusively. The added bonus of having SiteKit’s dashboard right in the WP dashboard is something that’s not too important to me, so SiteKit doesn’t make a lot of sense anymore (for our use case).
I appreciate your help on this though, thanks a lot!
Sascha
EDIT: As for your question about caching: We are using wordpress.com and I believe they have caching enabled by default with no option to change that. Either way, we have no plugin installed for caching, so this is outside of my control.
What’s weird is that what you saw is not showing up when I look at the page source.
Hi Renee,
the cmplz-script cmplz-stats come from a plugin named Complianz, which is a cookie consent manager (cookie banner). The plugin has an option to configure GA, but that option is turned off and I have never provided it with our GA tracking code. So the plugin couldn’t have inserted it, unless it was taking the tracking code from somewhere else. In the early days, when we started the site, we were using wordpress.com’s JetPack plugin to enable Google Analytics. But that has been disabled when we installed Site Kit.
The Site Kit injected the snippet perfectly fine before. Then we installed GTM (through Site Kit) and that’s when the Snippet disappeared (while Site Kit still claiming it’s injected the snippet):
When we had JetPack and Site Kit active at the same time, Site Kit properly showed that the snippet was inserted by another plugin.
Hi Renee,
this is super weird. We have not used any other method to inject the GA snippet. And Site Kit usually detects if a snippet is inserted and reports that on the Dashboard. However, in this case it just says “snippet is inserted”.
Thanks
SaschaEDIT: Where exactly did you find this? I just pulled up our site, looked at the page source and the snippet you found is not showing up.

I am a little confused here… we have Site Kit installed and had it inject the GA snippet. We also have GTM connected to Site Kit and inside GTM we have a tag for GA. Is that going to be an issue?
