I agree, the field DOES indeed limit the length of the username correctly. My concern is with the help; if I hover over the help bubble and read the help text it implies that this will only allow usernames LONGER than the number in the box (which is what I wanted) and only when I pointed out to another admin that it was to limit the length of the username, not set a minimum.

So in short, I agree, it’s working as intended but the help text seems to be wrong.

I had no obvious errors anywhere (incl dev tools) so I resolved the issue by performing a reinstall of wordpress. Very odd.

You were right; I was (am) confused because when I tried with Firefox it showed the smaller, 13 pt font. I have no idea but it’s resolved now.

I will go ahead and create another plugin if you think that’s best. I originally thought I would just add to the existing plugin but can create another. I like the ideas, I will see which ones I can knock out. No ideas on timeframe, but hopefully it won’t take me too long. Thanks for the reply!

it’s one of the disadvantages of being able to mod the environment. I think what I’ll do is add the plug-ins one by one and see if one of them breaks the plugin. Thanks for the help and I’ll let you know what I find.

I’ve found some good tips on debugging, but I’d love to hear your opinions/tips. Also, any insight on that specific error would be appreciated!

That would be tricky, since it is my production site. I’m fairly new to wordpress but I’ve been debugging scripts for a long time. Are there any good webpages/pdfs/something else that can help me? Perhaps a log file with some debugging turned on? I’ve not looked for a FAQ here on how to do debugging on plugins so that’s where I’ll start but I welcome any tips on debugging wp plugins in general. Thanks!

I created a basic single paragraph document and it failed. I can upload the doc but I’m not sure it will help as I have a dev wordpress install and it converted the doc just fine. Perhaps an incompatibility with another plugin? There are quite a few on my production box and I could go through one by one until I find one that causes this behavior but I was hoping this was a user error on my part (and an obvious one to troubleshoot).
