So generally speaking, if backups aren’t completing the backup process is getting killed/ending prematurely.

Commonly this is a combination of limited server resources coupled and/or large site size.

If the free version of BackUpWordPress can create a backup, the GD Extension shouldn’t have any troubles. If you do run into any issues just let me know and we can work on a solution, or in a worst case scenario give you a refund.

Could you try contacting your host and ask them to check what version of PHP you’re running? I’ve had a number of users think their on one version of PHP only to find it was being mis-reported.

We can’t actually see what the fatal error is. If you were to enable WP_DEBUG in your wp-config.php and then try activating the plugin, when it fails it should display more information about the fatal error. If you could copy an paste this information to us that would help a great deal.

Thanks for getting in touch.

So the specific issue here is “Maximum cpu execution time of 10 seconds exceeded”.
This is a restriction that’s been imposed by your hosting provider. This is extremely low and I recommend you contact your host and ask them to increase the limit.

If they are unable to increase the CPU execution time I might be worth upgrading hosts.

Hey Ian,

This issue was resolved in BWP 3.0. If you update (now BackUpWordPress 3.0.4) you should be able to exclude files without problems.
