Wow! Your feedback is HUGELY appreciated, valuable and on target! KUDOS!

I’ll be pursuing an operating MU install. Given the links, you provided, I suspect I’ve been looking at older methods. I’ll know more on that as I proceed.

I’m not too hung up on bandwidth or hard disk space. My current localhost is my own (reasonably robust) development machine. This initial effort, the one I’m posting about, will ultimately be the basis for more extensive work, but — one step at a time (OSAT) :-). I have a public domain this site will ultimately migrate to, but OSAT.

I’m inclined to get the current MU platform running before committing to test 3.0. Good idea? Once a standard MU install is stable, I’d prefer to develop/test on the pre-alpha(?) 3.0 version so I can “jump the gun” when it comes out. Does that sound like a plan?

Thanks for this guidance. I have done a good bit of reading here and was beginning to expect that MU would be the right answer.

My problems in getting MU to run are more related to the drudgery of working through the Apache settings on my localhost (along with compatibility with other projects), than any real concern about the ability to get it done. (I think the WP 5-minute install raised my expectations to an unreasonable level ??

Thanks for the feedback! Now it’s a question of which is better: 1) move forward now, accept and deal with the MU installation issues, or, 2) wait, and hope the MU install issues are simplified with the release of WP 3.0.

I suspect my XP, Apache, Localhost issues will remain after a WP 3.0 release. Any thoughts?

ahh, I’m sure you’ll need more info.

I have an XAMPP installation. Within that install, I’ve created an htdocs/Wordpress directory. Is it as simple as creating another directory with another name and placing a copy of the WordPress files in there too? I can see wp-config.php may need some mods and a new MySQL DB may be needed.

Can you point me in the right direction? I’m sure this all seems really basic, but, it’s these small steps that we new users often get too little help with.

BTW, this is also the first site that I’ve gotten such quick, focused feedback from … when does this get ugly and complex?

Geez, give me a chance to tinker before I work on backups. ??

My first concern is to get multiple sites running on one WP install, Is that possible? The reason for my question is that I don’t want to destroy the cleanly installed site that exists on my localhost … rather I’d like to establish a new sandbox site … now THAT, I’ll need Backups for ??

    help, ideas? all appreciated
