Thanks @hanan_qureshi – I had them install another browser (firefox – they mainly were using IE) but they didn’t seem to be able to use it and saw no improvement. They’re on a fairly recent version of Windows if I remember rightly. The weirdest thing is the fact that it’s only this WP site – no others behave slowly.

Thanks also @wpyogi – I’ve tried from different location with different IP, ISP and devices (plural). Not seeing such dire speed issues.

I’ve now increased the PHP memory limit for the server, gripped the site and am compressing the images with Smush.it. Will see if that helps…

    Any other suggestions still welcome.

Still have this issue – client sees terrible loading speeds (10 mins plus sometimes) and cannot edit through the dashboard as it is so slow. Other Internet sites they use are fine, speed-wise, including other wordpress websites.
They’re getting pretty annnoyed now. They’ve already replaced their router in an attempt to solve the issue.
Any more specific ideas would be great – has anyone else encountered this issue?
    Thanks in advance.

Curtis.mack – please excuse my ignorance but I don’t quite understand:

” it turned out to be an internal host name resolution problem ” – can you possibly expand and detail the exact steps you took? Thanks ??

Mine is not a multi-site installation in this case.

The host company are blaming WooCommerce for using too many resources and slowing the site down. This is odd as it was working fine…

I’ve stripped it right back plug-in wise and everything is up to date. I haven’t played around with any of the core files….

I’ve tried the usual troubleshooting steps.

Major commonalities seem to be host. A couple have woocommerce…

Themes all different. Largely premium but not all.

    Was working ok until update…

Yes – this is a different client site actually – although the two may indeed be linked now you mention it WPyogi…

Clients called me today re *another* site. They’re all loading really slow and they’re all almost inaccessible via the dashboard.

Most are with same host, but some are on shared package, some on our VPS. I think the issue still exists with a further, different host.

I’m just tearing my hair out. Can’t even edit stuff in the dashboard.

    Yes. No joy.

I’m also getting clients starting to phone with complaints they can’t use the dashboard as it times out… it’s either the update or the host…

I’m speaking with the host too but it seems other people have reported the same issue with this update (e.g. other thread I posted in by mistake). Is anyone looking into the problem? Is it a known issue?

    Ok – will do ??

Ditto the above. Since the update to WP 3.7.1 all my sites are sooooooo slllloooooow, on various hosting platforms (mainly the shared ones though). It’s actually painful. Trying to edit/admin the sites is chronic.

I’ve tried various browsers and didn’t update to Mavericks as had heard so much bad stuff about it.

    Can anyone help?

    Ok, thanks.

Thanks Esme. How can I prove it’s their end though? There’s nothing that would cause this to be a WP issue?

That was my thought originally too… but they’re doing online banking and browsing large sites like Amazon with no apparent speed issues… Just doesn’t make any sense.

Yep – just updated and is all working beautifully again – many thanks!

I am also seeing this. But only recently as far as I’m aware. If we can’t get it fixed, i’m going to have to stop using the plugin unfortunately ??

    Shortcode I’m using is: [catlist ID=6 excerpt=yes orderby=modified order=desc numberposts=8 excerpt_size=20]

And this is displaying at the top of the published page:

    array(6) { [“cat”]=> string(1) “6” [“numberposts”]=> string(1) “8” [“orderby”]=> string(8) “modified” [“order”]=> string(4) “desc” [“offset”]=> string(1) “0” [“post_status”]=> array(2) { [0]=> string(7) “private” [1]=> string(7) “publish” } }

Fixed (so far so good)… after spending hours yesterday trying *everything* and telling the hosting co to check their server etc. it *mysteriously* all came back to life…

So, my thinking – was the host after all – probably server firewall blacklist or similar. Unbelievable.

Subsequently, backing up now with a view to moving hosts! ??

Thanks to everyone who posted a suggestion.

Hi Justin – thanks. I’ve cleared the cache of 2 different browsers (safari and firefox) and the problem still occurs.

I’m on a mac so no antivirus as such…
