  • I’m wondering about something similar, although the solution does not seem to be a widget.

On lots of WP blogs I see, there are two checkboxes right beneath the comment textarea:

Notify me of follow-up comments via email.
Notify me of new posts via email.

I have the first checkbox (“Notify me of followup comments via email”) on mine, provided by the Gurken Subscribe to Comments plugin.

How do I get the other checkbox (“Notify me of new posts via email”)?

    Alright. I fixed it.

Even after uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin, the problem persisted. So I simply deleted and reposted every single comment that was affected, plus every single reply to every comment affected, meticulously adjusting all original times and dates, as well as names and email addresses of my commenters. Took me hours to manually restore everything. At least now my comment section looks just like before the glitch, and all my replies are properly attributed to their rightful author, not some anonymous Facebook User.

No clue what exactly had caused the problem. What I learned is that changing one’s username can lead to annoying unintended consequences with plugins.

I deleted the old admin account, so I can’t re-add it.

Whatever I set the Public name to makes no difference. The only thing that fixes the issue is to deactivate the FB-connect plugin. Once reactivated, I’m an unlinked “Facebook User” again. Drives me crazy.

Looks like I may have to go with a different plugin, because this issue seems oddly irreversible.

It has to do with the Facebook Connect plugin. Everytime I deactivate the plugin, “Facebook User” disappears and my desired nickname appears in its place. As soon as I activate the plugin again, all my replies to comments go back to “Facebook User.”

That’s the funny part: Under ‘Edit Comment’ my nickname, my e-mail address, and my link-URL are listed just as I want them. It just says “Facebook User” in the Comment section.

The static era? The WP page we’re looking at right now reminds me of the static era. At least my little torch thingie is MOVING!!!

All things passé eventually experience revivals, so I understand that certain elements on my blog may be a little ahead of their time. Nothing more avant-garde than a giant rotary phone mounted to the kitchen wall, doncha think?

    ??

OK, but he » arrow still drops into the next line when the font is set to anything larget than small in IE, only now this happens for “Older Entries”. It always seems to happen with whatever Entries are on the right side. Plus the Recent Entries link is now left and the Older Entries is right. Shouldn’t that be reversed? Somehow I feel that “Older” should be on the left pointing left and “Recent” should be on the right pointing right. I guess that’s because the human brain intuitively associates going right with going forward or something.

Also, what you did now is make the Entries links all white all the time. I think the original color was fine. What I meant was to only set the hover color to white.

The &raquo symbol drops below “Recent Entries,” at least when the font in my IE is set to medium, larger, and largest. I guess it should always be in the same line.

Also, and this is just my personal gut feeling, “Older Entries” should be on the left side of the screen, and “Recent Entries” on the right. Or maybe not. Perhaps I’m just used to seeing them in those locations.

Not crazy about the active-link shade of pink on “Older Entries” and “Recent Entries.” Too close to the background color and provides an awkward contrast. I would probably do a hover:white like you did on your top menu.

I added a giant Web 2.00ish-looking RSS icon. Now my design has officially joined the 21st century.

    Follow-up question:

I’m using the <!–more–> tag on all my posts. How can I set it so the <!–more–> tag will be ignored for the first post on the index page so that only the first post is displayed in full?

I hate to be the wet blanket at the party, but the wood looks more like synthetic paneling than real wood. Reminds me of a paint store. And I don’t like the blue either.

Given the name of the company, I might just take a pic of a sassafras and set it as the background image. Like this, for example. It’s real green and vibrant.

Thank you. I tried your suggestion, and it works like a charm.

@directorysieve, gray is gray, whether you can call it a light black or a dark white. And I’m not saying that there’s anything wrong with the color itself. It all depends on quantity and context.

@archondigital, I agree that an environmental website doesn’t have to look “too green” or “all green.” But if an environmental website looks predominantely one color, IMHO it shouldn’t be gray, as gray is what I associate with a dirty city, not nature. And as much as I’d love to think of myself as special and unique in my perceptions, chances are I am not. Thus it stands to reason that other people looking at that site will have the same association.

Also consider that many folks, myself included, use widescreens, in which case the background gray here becomes rather dominant.

The background is still a dark gray at my end, almost the exact same gray as the banner of the WP-page we’re on right now. Certainly not a light green.
