  • In the comments, I could do with more differentiation between the metadata background and the comment background – or more room between comments. When there are a lot of comments, I’m finding it hard to read through.

I’m running a three column theme that I’m not entirely happy with, but it does the job. Unfortunately everything’s a bit fixed width, so it’s not all that scaleable, but the main problem is that because of the ordering of divs and the structure, anything that uses clear:both; ends up clearing the left and right columns, which means I’ve had to hack the odd plugin here and there.

I’m a big fan of this horizontal approach, which I’ve now seen done well on quite a few sites, including yours. That said, here’s some nit-picking:

The middle section could do with something more to draw me in – at the moment it is considerably smaller, with just the excerpt, than the header and footer sections.

Links all behave differently on the front page – in the content, two of the links lose the text-decoration on hover, and one has no change. In the footer, in three places the text-decoration goes, but in the previous posts , there’s only a slight, and almost unnoticeable colour change. (I like the method of losing the underline when hovering over a link rather than the other way round, btw)

In the header, when you hover over a menu tab next to the currently active one, you end up with two large blocks of white with no gap between. Perhaps it’s a very personal preference, but a small border to break these up would look better.

But as I said, mere nit-picks.

That search box is pretty hard to spot

Really like this design. Layout-wise, it’s great to see something that isn’t a standard horizontal navigation / content split but which still works really well. If not better in fact. Kudos.

    Thanks for the thoughts, folks.

Class – I’ve put it all in a wrapper now and centered it. Trouble with what i’ve got now is that I used to use a < div style=”clear:both;” >< /div > in the index to make sure the post headers were below any images in the previous post, but now if I use that it clears below the navigation… not sure how to deal with that.
