Tom, I just thought of something. One of the greatest problems I have with WP is not being able to use a good media widget. I’d like something with thumbnails and a slide show.

Childishly Simple does not allow that.

How about Brick Road? Can it be placed on individual pages and can each one have its own gallery of photos? I don’t want one slide show for all photos.

Mark, I don’t know how to do that and I just found out I have a web host problem. There are only 3 hosts listed by WP that are accepted by WP. Do you know of any other hosts?

I’m at a point where I may have to dump WP and go with a site builder company since I’m not a geek. This isn’t my job and I can’t take time off from work to become a geek. The web host just won’t take responsibility for that which is a hosting issue unless I pay them to manage my site and I can’t afford it. It’s time to move.

Any help or suggestions with this.

Yes, unfortunately the hosts that meet the minimum requirements have strange practices. I’d really like to move away from WP in that I am finding it way to time consuming and complicated.

I’m thinking of going back to a site builder if I can gget the password protection I need.

    Any suggestions?

Tom, on one of my sites I have Childishly Simple and on the other Brick Road. I had a contact form on the first, it vanished and I cannot re-load it. I can’t place it on Brick Road either.

Switching to 2014 isn’t going to correct my ability to access .htacces and my WP server. Nor do I have time to delete everything on 2014 so it looks like Brick Road.

I am convinced it is the web host. Too many other things unrelated to WP are happening. I have no communication with them. I need another web host. I looking and think I’ve found one offering better than shared hosting, indeed, slightly higher cost, however, some of the most complex sites are hosted with them and there are site building options. If 4.0 is as bad as numerous people on the forums say it is perhaps its time to change.

There is Weebly and a host of others I’m checking out. Bare in mind, my sites are very basic and simple. Just text and photos.

I hear you Tom. At this point I believe you are correct. I moved my site to DreamHost and for a whole year I had perfect harmony and compatibility. It seems as though a whole new crowd has taken it over and every time I ask for a little help I get lip service and my site fails even more. At this point my first site has no pictures on it after they “fixed” it. I do not have access to my .htaccess files. Nothing I do works.

Insofar as your theme is concerned, I again, need to access my .htaccess files to paste some code so WP stops sending out a 404. I have no access to do it.

My greatest problem is finding a web host that is managed by and operated by mature adults who have a code engineering background and take responsibility for hosting issues.

The easiest way for me to correct this problem I have is to go to another web host. My site is very basic and I can copy and paste the entire site in less time than it would take me to become a geek. Its the photos that are time consuming although less time consuming than the time needed to become a geek.

If there are any suggestions you can make please do so. I really like Brick Yard and think my problems with background are hosting problems.

I’ve done it both ways and still no contact form. On one of my sites it just vanished and I can’t put it back on. On my new site I can’t put it on to begin with.

I believe its with the new 4.0, however, my web host restored the old version and it still won’t go on. I deleted the entire page and put and published a new page on and it still won’t go on.

I’m starting to think it may be a hosting problem. Know a really professional web host? I’ll check it out.

It came up when I tried to initially install the contact form through wp-admin. It is no longer on a page.

    Ahh so.

Here is the problem: Warning: strpos() expects parameter 1 to be string, array given in /home/xxxxxxx/cycleshanty.com/wp-includes/shortcodes.php on line 196

John, the xxxxx’s above were added by me in that the world can see this post and that info is a little sensitive. My site is cycleshanty.com if you want to see it.

I’d really appreciate your help with this.

Well, my web host tried to correct the problem and I lost all my photos. All I have are little blue boxes as though they can’t be displayed yet, however, the captions are there.

I did re-install 4.0 and still nothing has happened. I can’t place any contact form on either of my websites.

I always had the contact form (JetPack) on my site and it just disappeared. It isn’t the Theme. I just can’t place a contact form on either site.

You mentioned 2014 Theme. That would create even more problems for me. Is that just to bring up the contact form and then switch back to Childishly Simple?

Bingo, brother, that’s why I wanted your opinion. I can wait a while to find the problem and fix it. I will disable all the plug ins and activate what I need. It could be Jet Pack. I’ll get with you as soon as I try it.

My webhost told me to go back to 3.9.2.

    (@cyclesha)

Well, l’ll start from the beginning. I lost my contact form completely on one of my websites and when I went to install the form on the 2nd one, a new one all that appeared in the visual was code. I tried re entering the code on the text page and the same thing happened. I deleted the page and rebuilt it and the same thing happened.

In addition to JetPacks form I tried form 7 and the same thing happened.

I uploaded Absolutely Private and activated the plugin and nothing happened.

I can’t upload or add anything on 4.0.

    Okay, its to you.

Tom, who is a really good web host willing to help a client out when they don’t have code skills etc? I’m really thinking of making a change since I do need the contact forms and there is nothing I can do to correct the error I received when I tried to put the contact form back on after the site was updated to WP 4.0.

Do you know how to un revise WP and go back to 3.9.1?

    Thread Starter cyclesha

    (@cyclesha)

Did do that and for a moment it worked. Check out the current problem; cycleshanty.net and let me know what you think.

    Did change the CSS to read: body {background-size: cover;}

Still cannot get the contact form, either one, WP ot Form 7. I’m trying to get my host to correct the problem (PHP) with their server.

Any way, let me know what you think.

    Robert
