This may depend on the way the document is created, and your sharing settings. We are ultimately restricted to the way Google has chosen to render the embedded files.

For non-native files (i.e. PDF, doc files – not Google Doc/Sheet) there will normally be a pop-out button within the viewer so you can at least open in a new tab and print from there.

For all file types, you can always embed the same file twice – once as an ‘Embed document’ preview, and again as a ‘Viewer file link’. I think this is what you’ve tried to do, but you don’t actually need two different files to be available.

Thanks for your post. There isn’t a way to do that with this plugin. You would first need to find a way to generate a thumbnail of the PDF’s first page, and then set the image as the featured post manually.

It should be possible to get it to work on multisite, but you would need to enter all subdomains as possible ‘Authorized Javascript Origins’ in the Google Developers Console project when you configure the plugin with Google.
