  • Hi !
I use the free version of Kadence Virtue theme. I have a problem with creating a portfolio.
I have created one as a page with a portfolio grid but it won’t appear in Portfolio bookmarks. When you create one from Portfolio part, it lacks certain setting elements as compared with the one with portfolio grid page. I’m puzzled what the difference is….
The one I created appears in Top Bar, just like all my other pages. Could I put it under the header, for example ?

    Hello !
    Thanks for the information
As I understand, I can set a fixed resolution of a featured image and slider as well.
I know that images in galleries, sliders or featured photos require commercial plugins to enable comments, especially FB comments. You can easily comment only on non-featured images inside a post.
You probably mean an IMAGE grid widget that’s available. !’m puzzled here because you can put it in footer or sidebar area and, in fact, I need it on the main page where the grid appears – so where should I activate the widget ?
And the featured projects – I don’t remember reading about an option to put these under the main slider and icons zone under the header – I guess there’s a way ?? What is it ?

It’s a good idea to refer to the link of the demo – now I’ll be more understood as I don’t want anything more from what your theme offers:
1.”Outdoor Adventure” post uses a featured image, which nicely appears on the grid. This type of post is the only one that I can use to present a single new photo on my blog feed (let aside “dateless” potfolio posts for other useful purposes) In practice it means that I must feature it giving my description inside the post’s content. The problem is that the thumbnail doesn’t appear in the grid – it’s probably the resolution mistake – in my other blog’s responsive Twenty-Eleven Theme the photo’s minimal width is 570 – I tried it here but it didn’t work. I’ll be using all options: slider, gallery , featured image etc. and I want them visible on the grid, the way it is on the demo.
    2. I use FB integration on WP. Usually there’s a problem to have this kind of comments enabled on gallery or slider single items – I’m afraid the problem will remain here with comments possible only to the whole posts or images inside the post.
    3. Below the icon zone there’s a place for featured projects on the demo – it’s got the useful potential for me – I guess they are portfolios in reality – I haven’t worked out yet of how to put them there.
Although I still have some other questions, I’ll ask them later – these ones are crucial. I hope now you get me much better ??

Fine… Let me go into more detail and sort out other problems:
    1. I followed the update instructions and things seemed to be all right, but I did it through my virtue_child theme. My “original” Virtue, which is obviously inactive still announces the update is available, so it dawned on me that all the update should be done through the original one. But that seems strange as it means any time I want to update or change anything like CSS for example, I must activate the original fof some time…. I’m a really puzzled guy now.
… which is bringing me to:
    2. I wanted to paste your CSS suggestions into CSS structure but I could find it, at least in the child theme. I remember that usually it’s a lot of stuff there and I could possibly find the right place for replacement or addition, even as a layman in the issue, but what I found there was hardly anything and the last update info is from Jan 28, when I installed the theme (created the child theme)
I’m enclosing links where I show what’s written there:
    https://abload.de/image.php?img=snap2014-02-23at12.250zbuw.png
    https://abload.de/image.php?img=snap2014-02-23at12.259slui.png
3.If my main page is a blog grid, where can I position portfolios ? Obvoiously I can trat them as pages and put above or in the header as links. But what about sliders where I can normally put icons ? Or at least an image representing a given portfolio, say Nature ?
2a The CSS change you’re suggesting brings about what I expect, namely only an image and the title in the grid ? (any image from the blog ? Don’t I have to make a featured one ? – that would be good as I hate all the repetitions when ther’s an image in the blog and the same representing one above…)

    Hmmm..
As for the update, I have always thought that once I create a child theme (I use a special plugin) I can stop thinking about it… OK – Should I give the folder’s name where it resides in the host’s server ? And then follow the instruction: https://www.kadencethemes.com/updating-virtue-with-new-options-panel/ ? And the folder: should it be a path given like: B/h/g – this being just a hierarchical example.
And if portfolio posts don’t have dates, I must use different post types for photos. I,m running an exploration blog where I use “typical” posts. In a photo blog people tend to post images with descriptions which are posts with no other contents – how to create such a post ? It should have comments (enabled FB integration). Of course, apart from these I may use normal text posts. And I understand this time categories show up together ?
And let me ask you again – how to feature a photo to show up in the main page grid without the featured photo appearing above the post ? What I mean is the thumbnail with the title, which, after clicking on it, simply leads you to either to the “image” post, or a text post containing this photo (with no copy of the same image above).
And finally the portfolios again What I understand is that each “category” means just one potfolio: Nature portfolio, People potfolio, Abstract portfolio etc.

    Hi
Well, as for the Comment Box, it’s part of this plugin:
    https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/facebook/
The comment box is shown with images only when it’s a single photo – it never works this way once you browse with a gallery or with carousel effect – which is my problem, cause without the gallery function, viewing becomes much less attractive.Once my blog is integrated with Facebook, it’s hard to imagine no reader’s ability to comment on images separately.

Ok – I could do that, but instead I’ll try to simplify matters ?? Just wanted to cover all the points, but it was inevitably too complicated to get across….
1.Open Graph ‘tutorials’ do not exist – unfriendly stuff for a layman like me. i didn’t paste codes as I’m scared to deal with the core of the software, so I started to try and activate the app somehow. I wasn’t able to finish ‘submitting’ my app page missing for some site’s screeshots and privacy url and didn’t verify action>object, but the app worked somehow when I installed Facebook plugin with problems with sharing to Timeline, not to a fanpage. To sort it out I searched for some plugins finding Open Graph Protocol Framework, which for some reasons I changed for WP Facebook Open Graph protocol. I thought that they would delete all their actions, but realised that Facebook debugger showed multiple OG url error (after installing yours, which is definitely final) it obviously showed triple multiplication of url. I want some help how to fix this.I’m afraid that it might affect the blog’s performance and statistics (analytics)
    2. Another issue is a strange buttons behaviour. After sharing with LinkedIn, Google +, the actions were counted but soon after ‘uncounted’. contrary to the settings, my sharing to Google + page is inactive (I do it manually).
For your information – Facebook plugin is still active with unticked Timeline share, otherwise it would be impossible – quite paradoxical…
I hope it is much clearer now ??

    (@darioangelo)

@itthinx Thanks – that’s really good news for ‘not so much’ IT – minded guy like me ??
As you’ve probably had a glance at my screenshots above, you can see that I was in the process of submitting my app page as it was required to get atarted. now I can see the results of your plugin activation – My fanpage stopped getting unpublished and some of unstable widgets were ‘brought back to life’.
But should I finish with privacy url, screenshots of the app site (required to submit the app page)? there waere also some testing action submissions and people waited for FB staff reviews / approvals – I understand IT‘s something worry about any more.
What’s interesting is that in my FB integration settings tab my Timeline connection is not active, but it works due to your plugin (the fanpage is active). I guess I can decide for each post where it gets published EACH TIME as I can deduce from the simple logic of ‘decision boxes’ under the edited post.
Let me ask you something: in my FB settings I have ‘floating’ like recommendation boxes and their widget representations. Can I use both (additional widgets in different parts of my blog) ?
I want to set a similar integration for my other blog – before my activation of your plugin, how much should I do through FB-Developers procedures to register my new app ?
I’ve read somewhere that it also works with Google + and Linked In – is it true ?

The same with me. By the way. Do you know how to complete the WP / FB with submitting Open Graph action? Should I load the settings with all these Icon, Banner options, descriptions ?

    (@darioangelo)

@wpyogi Thanks ! I’ll stay with this child theme option then.

    (@darioangelo)

OK – the blog is not ready as I’m still during the set-up process, but active, so you or someone else could have a look ?? Obviously it’s on the created child theme.
I talked to the hosting service guy and he said that making a copy with a different name, not a child theme is also a way. I wonder if I can have access to all the update benefits to the parent theme this way?
Another way ia creating my own Custom CSS code with either Custom CSS Manager or Jetpack.
But maybe it’s ok to stay with what I have….

    It’s definitely a plugin from WP.org repository.

I’ve used One-Click Child Theme to create a child theme from Twenty Eleven. I avoided Child Themify as it’s got some liomitations. I hope that’s ennough and now I can safely go towards the end of config and my blog posts. A simple clone of the theme would be an alternative, I suppose, but i guess it’s not necessary now. When I develop my confidence, I’ve got a child theme (My First 2011 Baby :)) anyway, I can work with some more ambitious changes on it.
Was it a good move on my part?

    Thread Starter DarioAngelo

    (@darioangelo)

Ok – let me sum up and clarify:
1.If I modify things within existing customisation options in the parent theme, future updates are not destructive either to my widget or setting or other similar configuration. Only if I choose to modify its elements BEYOND the options of the parent theme, your suggestions seem to matter. Right?
    2. I’ve spent a lot of time preparing some plugin configuration. Suppose I started with a child theme, I hope these are still relevant and active: sharethis, FB for WP, Akismet, Google Analytics, SEO stuff, XML Sitemap and the like.
    3. Now, when I create a child theme and work on it, doing any changes to its style will or will not endanger my current config, like the above mentioned?
    4. i understand the benefit is also that changes to the parent affect the child in a positive way, with all possible improvements?
    5. In my host I work on Direct Admin platform with Installatron tool, so I guess most of these steps are easy to do
    /wp-content/themes/ directory
The child folder should be in the directory, not inside the parent theme folder?
@import url(“../twentytwelve/style.css”); < i place of dots, I should paste my blog url?
