    Thanks, esmi.

I just logged in to my account and re-read the “Permalink Settings” page.

The second section is an “Optional” section:

“If you like, you may enter custom structures for your category and tag URLs here. . . .”

Then below the “Save Changes” button is the statement,

“If your .htaccess file were writable, we could do this automatically, but it isn’t . . .”

Previously, I had assumed this last statement applied only to “Optional” settings changes that might be made. However, now I am wondering if it applies to all settings changes (i.e. – my change from Default to Day-and-Name).

Was I, indeed, required to edit the mod_rewrite rules in my .htaccess file for those changes to take effect?.

    Hi, Dan.

The name of the theme is “Neptune”, from the wordpresstheme.com site. I had posted the link, but it didn’t show up in my post. Oh well, here it is again, this time in plain text:

    https://www.wordpresstheme.com/index.php?s=neptune

I have also tried to use the WordPress Upload option, but I got the following message:

“Unable to create directory /home/virtual/site78/fst/var/www/html/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/01. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”

I don’t like to play around with the server too much, so I don’t know if I can get around this. (Perhaps I should connect to the host via my FTP software and manually try to create this directory?)

Another thing, browsing the WordPress 2.9 directory structure, I notice the “wp-content/themes” folder has two sub-folders: “classic” and “default”. All three folders contain a file named “index.php” So now I am wondering if I should actually be copying the Neptune files into the “default” sub-folder (to become the new default for my blog).

Thanks for the Google Calendar recommendation. I am very new to Blogging, PHP, and RSS. Would you have step-by-step instructions available? I know almost nothing about PHP, so I hope there is no PHP coding involved. And I wouldn’t even know what file to edit.

    Thanks, HandySolo.

That get_calendar function seems tied to the blog itself; it shows a month for which posts were made and highlights dates on which posts were made (unless I am mis-reading the information). I’d really just like a calendar that shows the current month and the current day highlighted, regardless of blog posts.

Some PHP calendars are available elsewhere (independent of WordPress plug-ins and themes). The challenge is learning enough PHP to insert the code myself. I am hoping this route is not the only option available, so I’d certainly like to hear other recommendations.
