In reply to: RSS Link QuestionOK got this uploaded but when I click the link I get:
(in Safari) Safari cana€?t open a€?feed:https://www.naturalfoodworks.net/wp-commentsrss2.phpa€? because Mac OS X doesna€?t recognize Internet addresses starting with a€?feed:a€?
(in Firefox) feed is not a registered protocol
In addition, If I hover over the “rss” text in the link a question mark appears.
Any ideas about how to “fix” this?
Thanx

In reply to: RSS Link QuestionManx, I’m not sure what you mean but It would be cool to have some way for people who want to subscribe to the RSS from our blog to do so without having to go through the process of copying and pasting the URL.

In reply to: Another RSS questionIs there any “standard format” for such an image? Could you point me to an example? And, is there any way to make the image a link. I’m still unclear on how a subscriber would get the URL.

In reply to: RSS DummySo, if someone were to bookmark a particular post they would be able to access it later (without permalinks), even after it’s been archived?

Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: RSS DummyWell that was easy enough! Now could someone explain (in VERY simple terms please!) the advantages (or dis-advantages) of having permalinks enabled?

In reply to: RSS DummyGotcha. I’ll give it a run…thanx much again for the help. I took a look at the header to see what you were referring to and, yup, sure enough there it is, just like you said it would be! This is so cool!

In reply to: RSS DummyOK, now it’s time to reveal how much of a “dummy” I really am! What do you mean by “look in my header”? Is a feed created each time I post something to my blog? And how to “enable permalinks”? And can someone “get” the feeds with a news reader that is pointed to mysite,com/feeds?
Sorry if this seems too basic but I really do appreciate the help!

In reply to: Google Ad SenseCool. I just don’t want the ads to pop up anywhere. But, as you point out, the best way to learn is to do. What is really nice is to have this forum to come back to after one hoses one’s site by messing around with stuff one knows nothing about! Now that I have a “safe” WP installation running on a local server, I can play around to my heart’s content. But, I don’t think the Google stuff will be able to get through to my local IP address.

In reply to: Simple Install Error – can’t find it!!Just went through this. Try installing MySQL v4.0. That did the trick for me. With all of the other MySQL versions, I got the database error.

In reply to: MySQL / PHP4 Where do they go?Again thanx for this link. I got everything installed and running. The only problem I had was installing the “right” version of MySQL. I am using WP 1.2 and it seems that only MySQL 4.0 will work with this WP version. The only thing the tutorial does not tell you is how to “uninstall” MySQL so to be safe, I just started from scratch with a clean install of OSX. I had to do this twice (third time was a charm!) as I started with v4.1, then the v5 alpha and finally 4.0. But, now I have a WP installation on a local computer on which I can experiment to my hearts content without having to worry about hosing my blog!
