Thanks Uriahs.
I tackled the described process for Method 2. Turned off WP-cron easily enough but the control panel didn’t have a section for cron jobs so I sent a request to my web host with the specs. Should hear from them tomorrow. Thanks Uriahs. The tasks do indeed all show Now. I noticed one for a former plugin. When I deleted it, the error message at the top appeared: “there was a problem spawning a call to the WP-Cron system” with a “cURL error 35”.
I also notice rop (Revive Old Posts?) has 2 entries, neither of which match the plugin settings (daily). This may be normal to monitor the time set.
Don’t see a way to add an attachment so i’ll link to it:

In reply to: [Secure Copy Content Protection and Content Locking] Not Working on Home PageHi
I reviewed the posts you mention and found them all working. And today, the Home page was working too. Perhaps this was a caching issue.
The site gets 3-5,000 hits a day so taking a bunch of functionality off-line for testing isn’t going to happen for a maybe.
Thanks for your consideration.

In reply to: [Secure Copy Content Protection and Content Locking] Not Working on Home PageHi
The Home page is the Blog page, standard in WordPress. It contains the latest Posts. I don’t know what you mean that it doesn’t contain posts. The Kurzka Post is a Standard post type and the plugin works there. So I’m not sure what you mean. Your Plugin doesn’t work on the Kurzka post on the Home page, which is why I started this topic.
I’m sure the site owner would be happy to pay for the plugin but it’s not much use if it blocks copying on posts but doesn’t block the same posts on the Home page.

In reply to: [AWS for WordPress] Ignore ‘image’ speechI have the same issue. The voice doesn’t pause between the image Alt tag (which screen readers and bots require) and the first word of the post. It muddles them together, causing an awkward start to the read. It does the same with other images in the post. Where the image code is placed varies a bit from where the image is displayed, so the placement of the alt tags can show up in the middle of a sentence, etc.
I added a period to the end of the Alt tag which causes a pause. But the Alt tag content is about the image, not the text body so its disconcerting unless someone is used to using a screen reader.
An option to ignore Alt tags would be great.

In reply to: [AWS for WordPress] Polly for Updating Prior PostsNot sure if makes a difference but the 2 Polly did work on were smaller posts: one a test and the other the announcement of the service. The longer posts since then (under 2k words) have timed out.
But again, given this is just a small RSS file, I don’t know why this would be an issue.
Having a manual trigger would also allow adding Polly to selective existing posts if a user didn’t want to do all of them.
Thanks

In reply to: [AWS for WordPress] Polly for Updating Prior PostsHi @tstachlewski
Thanks for responding. It’s turned out the behaviour is not quite how I described. When I Add a new Post, if it works properly, the player and the sound file are added to the post as expected.
However, most of the time, when I click Publish the server throws a 503 error and times out. When i refresh, the post has published and the player is loaded onto the post but the sound file doesn’t arrive in the S3 bucket. Given the server timeout error, I assume it’s at the plugin level. Something in the Polly plugin process seems to be causing trouble with the server. Given this is an RSS file with some identification meta data, I’m not sure why it would bog the server. (The AWS flow chart shows it going to AWS Lamba, then to the Polly service for processing.)
If it does work (only twice now on the live server), when I Update the post, it reprocesses the sound file and updates it too. It doesn’t have a problem redoing the file, just publishing it the first time. If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t cause it to work during an Update.
After announcing the new feature on my blog, i was obliged to turn it off. The plugin has updated twice in the last few days but the fixes don’t seem to be related.
i spoke with my Hosting service and they don’t know anything at their end that would get in the way.
The only other plugin that processes on Post is “WP to Twitter.” It announces new posts on my Twitter account.
What I’m interested in is:
a) a way to manually trigger Polly processing on an existing post so that if it didn’t work, i can re-trigger it. This would make fixing and testing much easier. (ie: a button on the New Post Polly plugin section.) Don’t know enough about how it works to know how difficult this would be.b) any suggestions on how i get Polly working reliably.

In reply to: [AWS for WordPress] Polly for Updating Prior PostsI contacted my host and they’re not aware of an issue. But posting and updating posts sometimes throws a 503 error. Apparently it’s unable to process the Polly requests and that fails. The post does get posted though.
Suggestions? Anyone?

In reply to: [AWS for WordPress] Polly for Updating Prior PostsThis has become more of an issue. Adding a recent post, my server connection timed out (503). The post completed but Polly didn’t get the RSS so no file created. Theres no way to address the issue.
If i’m not describing a typical issue, I’d like to know. Another post did update the audio file when I updated the post.

In reply to: [AWS for WordPress] Could not create S3 bucketThanks Remong!
This slightly updated Policy vs the linked Tutorial fixed it for me too. Now the S3 bucket was created.- This reply was modified 5 years, 9 months ago by DavidFB.
Thanks Zeno. This is really a cludge. I have the same issue.
To activate the checkbox, you have to turn on:
Settings, Discussion, Show Comments Cookies Opt-in Checkbox. Then every user has to check the box to get comment editing and an indicator the comment is being moderated. (I frequently get multiple submissions.)
I have had some feedback that other WP users who are logged in to other sites do get the comment editing. You have to log out to see this behaviour.
Seems this is mainly a WP update issue in cookie handling.
This says how to make the checkbox mandatory but is beyond my skill level.
https://wpdevdesign.com/how-make-cookies-checkbox-for-comments-mandatory-in-wordpress/After I got the app approved, I completed the process per the directions above. However, when I tried to delete the old app, it gave me a “REST API functionality is not available” error message.
I deactivated this plugin then reactivated it. Then the old app was delete-able, the new app added and its now working. Thanks, Uriahs
Looks like i have to change over from from apps to developer as I’m getting the error message too. I stopped and restarted the plugin once and it worked once but then started throwing the error again.Just one thing – they’ve changed the 4 questions in #3 of the steps listed. Question #3 is in #2 position and theres a new #3.
https://docs.revive.social/article/914-how-to-create-a-twitter-application-for-revive-old-postJust waiting for the app to be approved, then I’ll set it up on Twitter and get this working again. I appreciate the plugin as i have 10 years of posts that can be reshared that would otherwise be buried.
Thanks for restoring the catagory excludes in v 8.02. Glad to see my earlier settings had been retained.
