@in10se – I am using it within the loop. I’m using next to a date tag and a category tag, which work just fine. I tried <?php $author = get_the_author(); ?> But still doesn’t work ??

Found the issue. Something with the server and the email sending. I fixed it by switching to gmail’s smtp servers, as per this post:

I changed to the twenty thirteen theme, and it didn’t change anything.

I got a load time of less than 3 seconds (using this tool) with the Twenty Thirteen theme, but the contact form still took forever — even with all the other plugins deactivated :-/
