Update – further checking in the forums here suggests that there are several options. 1) hope that things suddenly change for the better as they did for one user. 2) reduce the file size of the backup uploaded (can’t do – literally hundreds of pictures on the file) 3) become a database expert or 4) rebuild the entire thing, wipe everything old and start over again as one user did.

Given the likelihood of 1, the impossibility of 2, the unreality of 3, I’m left with 4. So not wanting to waste any more of my or your time, I’m going for a total wipe and rebuild. I’ve copied the important posts into a text file and will upload them after the rebuild.

It will let me refocus the blog anyway. ??

Thanks for the thought about images. I’m uploading full sized images and not thumbnails. The problem is also with all the old images, every image on the site has disappeared. They’re in the files OK but can’t be seen.

So in short, I can upload all I want using the upload command. I’m using filosofo image plugin as well and neither will give me an image that will show.
