In reply to: [W3 Total Cache] So should I update or not?Clear Cache
Disable Plugin
Clear your browser cache (FF, chrome, ie)
uninstall
Remove files added by W3TC in wp-content (I always keep backup of the default htaccess file just in case)
Optimize/repair database
Install new versionShould be fine. I checked the changelog (always do so) and there were just too many things changed. Installing “clean” is safer in these situations I feel
I have no complex setup, I just use Browser and Page cache, and I think most will be fine.Just remember, that a plugin that messes with your htaccess file and controls the way the pages are served to your visitors is not like any other plugin.
No one can predict conflicts or incompatibilities with setups. If you have a complex setup, it’s always good to keep a test site, where you can test all new plugin version before updating.
If you don’t want any unpleasant surprises with your production site, just take precautions and BACKUPS…I use duplicator plugin for these things

In reply to: [W3 Total Cache] A disaster after the latest UpgradeThe update was too big.
So I took the precautionary measure of
1) clearing all cache
2) uninstalling W3TC
3) Clearing my browser’s cache
4) clearing any left over files and directories (check your config file as well…I had changed permission and wouldn’t work automatically)
5) optimizing the database
6) Reinstalling “clean”When there are so many changes, and so many different setups, it’s better to play it safe. Something is bound to go wrong.
I’ve only noticed an increase in time when serving non-cached pages I am not so enthused about (shared hosting), but still good.

In reply to: [SZ - Video for WordPress] Float parameter supported? That would be great.
Any chance of looking into making it work with the plugin “Video Thumbnails”? It retrieves a thumbnail from the first video and assigns it as featured image.
I guess this may be more appropriate to ask from the author of the other plugin, but I am putting it out there as an idea. Thanks

In reply to: [Broken Link Checker] Plugin brings the whole site downI am on a shared host and it’s not giving me any trouble.
For “peace of mind” however I have unchecked “run hourly on the background”…
I will run this manually once a week then disabled the background checks or altogether disable it until I want to use it again.I repeat the plugin has not given me any grief, but I do this for all plugins I don’t need to have enabled constantly.
If you have lots of plugins or wish to save as many resources as possible, just disable plugins you don’t need to run all the time and enable them only when and while you have to, then disable.I think it’s a resource-conscious good practice
Hi,
Yes I can navigate to the Diagnostics link, seeing the phpinfo.
For me too that block does not show up every single time I run Duplicator. Sometimes a security block shows up, sometimes not.
I forgot to mention that in my redirection plugin I have previously come across a not-found report for the javascript file that Duplicator uses.
Hmm, the security block in Bulletproof Security appeared again when I ran the newest version of Duplicator

So initiating the backup process is actually intepreted as a type of malicious actionHi, I just installed the latest development version (0.4.2) and the successful backup did register in the dashboard.
I will test again later and report back if this issue is repeated

In reply to: [2 Click Social Media Buttons] Often twitter and googleplus icons won't loadThis problem persists – icons won’t even load – although I have installed the latest version 1.5 and set a language for the buttons in the setting to tackle services not loading when clicked.
Thank you again.
Well I didn’t mean I’d wait until the official version is out, but rather the one that improves on the current one (0.4.1 > 0.4.2 or 0.5) implementing the changes you are referring to.
I’ll just go ahead and install the development version. It’s not doing anything on the frontend anyway.
Thank you very much for your response. Duplicator is an awesome plugin both for taking backups and restoring from backups (equally important)…it rules the category in my view.
If the plugin version is expected to have other changes implemented before being officially released, I wouldn’t mind waiting a bit.
Thank you very much

In reply to: [BulletProof Security] Possible Conflict with 'Duplicator' PluginNow I haven’t followed the troubleshooting steps as such.
I will do so and report back

In reply to: [BulletProof Security] Possible Conflict with 'Duplicator' PluginThank you for you response. I commented the code line out, but still the report won’t show up in the plugin’s Dashboard
I must also point out, that ever since posting this log, I’ve ran two instances of the backup process, but no new reports were registered at the BPS security log…don’t know how to interpret that.
I will also contact the author of the other plugin

In reply to: [Hyper Cache] Uninstalled, yet homepage still served hyper-cachedWith a delay of many hours the hyper cached homepage was cleared.
For some reason, although I cleared my cache several times, used browsers that had no cache of the website etc, the Hyper Cached homepage took several hours after uninstalling the plugin to be served as non-cached.
Went back to Hyper Cache, however, after testing all three major caching plugins…HP gives the best loading times for both cached and non-cached pages.

In reply to: [BulletProof Security] Php security questionThank you for your reply.
Perhaps it is an issue with the other plugin, although it has not been updated in the meantime.
Anyway if you say it’s not a big deal, I am OK with it.
