In reply to: Need API key for AskimetGo to your dashboard and click the link provided. You’ll be required to open an account through WP.COM. When you do, just click that you want a username, not a blog. Then check your email. It will have the API key.

In reply to: Unable to use Askimet API key for WPStatsDid you ever get an answer that worked?
It’s confusing. I stumbled through it, but finally got it to work.1. I had signed up for a blog at WP.org
2. I had to sign up for a ‘username’ at WP.com to get the key for Akismet which was emailed to me. (just the username…nothing else)
3. I entered that key into the area at my blog dashboard (under WP.org). At first it didn’t work. I found some instructions that said to type it in, not cut and paste. I did and it worked. (could this be the ‘simple’ answer?)
4. I got another page that said something like “not quite ready, enter key again.” I did. Voila! it all came together.I hope my process is accurate and can save someone time and frustration.
Now I can see the Akismet navigation in my left sidebar. I’m, at this writing, waiting for the plugin to come on board (got a note saying I was rushing—need to give it 20 minutes or so).
This did not happen as simply as I wrote it. It actually took me over an hour to figure it out. I was confused by having to get something from WP.com when I have WP.org. I thought I had clicked something in error to be hearing from WP.com. I was confused by the system questioning me about being the owner of the key, and then the back and forth thing with the usernames and passwords, especially trying to sign into WP.com within my WP.org dashboard, using my WP.org password. That was weird. (same as the original poster). Maybe old programming heads know exactly what to do, but for us ‘newer’ folk, the instructions are not all that forthcoming.

In reply to: Gif Image transparency.gif’s can be transparent. Your question makes me curious though. Have they stopped using it? Do you think if I changed it to a .png that it would show up correctly> Hmmm…isn’t it .png that doesn’t support transparency? I did my graphic in Gimp, and I seem to recall that the box said so.
I have IE 7. My graphic shows up correctly in the browser, just not when I upload it to WP.

In reply to: Gif Image transparencyI’ve done a lot of searching for answers before and since posting my problem with my transparent image ending up with a black background. Still no luck.
Again, I thank you in advance for any help.
