In reply to: [AMP] Big drop in page speed after WordPress 5.9 UpdateDo you have any idea what was in the WordPress 5.9 update that could have caused this. My hosting provider said that I should check themes and plugins because there is nothing that they can see on the server side causing the issue. My theme provider did provide an update for 5.9 which I have already installed. I have no idea what to look at next.
I know cloudflare have some features such as “workers” that can be used to help optimise AMP but I have no clue how to implement this. I am paying for the cloudflare service, it’s not the free option, so I can implement it. I found the GitHub for it but not sure what to do with it!! Do you think this could help? https://github.com/ampproject/cloudflare-amp-optimizer
Any suggestions?

In reply to: [AMP] Big drop in page speed after WordPress 5.9 UpdateHi Fellyph,
I contacted my hosting provider and ran some tests. The server is responding as normal. Ping is fast and nothing has changed there. Note: I have a virtual dedicated server so it’s not bog standard hosting and has been a great service. The issues literally started with the wordpress upgrade and I haven’t been able to make changes. The site now shows just 13.4% good URL’s in page experience versus the 100% it had prior to the upgrade. I expect that the bots will check the remaining pages in the coming days and I’ll be back to zero.
Is there anything else I can do here? You mention the OPCache, what/where is that? I’ve turned off the cache on my server and am only using Cloudflare cache now. IF there something else I should configure or something ew I can try, please let me know. Such a shame to be in this position given all the work I put in to get the site to where it was.
Thanks again for your help.

In reply to: [AMP] Big drop in page speed after WordPress 5.9 UpdateHi, I wonder if there has been any development with this issue? My good URL% for page experience has dropped from 100% to 52% and it continues to fall each day. It’s a terrible shame to be in this position after working so hard to get the site to score high on mobile friendliness. What can I do to fix it?
Thanks in advance for the assistance.Forum: Plugins

In reply to: [AMP] Big drop in page speed after WordPress 5.9 UpdateHi Fellyph,
I’ve bee looking at this page: https://theflowerempowered.com/2020/12/17/5-steps-to-overcome-vaginismus/
in the safari browser and it’s loading really slowly, especially when scrolling. I assume it’s the same issue as it wasn’t happening two days ago. I would click off the page with this type of response. Do you see the same?Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [AMP] Big drop in page speed after WordPress 5.9 UpdateOh, you also asked about what pages are slow. I have just pulled this from google search console:

In reply to: [AMP] Big drop in page speed after WordPress 5.9 UpdateWow, I’m chuffed that you included my site in the showcases list, thank you!

Some background on what I have done today that led me to raising the support ticket:
I was alerted to the fact something wasn’t right when I got the page experience issues message from Search Console, and when I checked, I noticed that WordPress had auto-updated. At that stage, it wasn’t possible to edit or add posts or pages as I was seeing the white screen of death when trying. I updated a few plugins and that made no difference. To troubleshoot, I first changed themes to the 2020 theme but still had that issue, so reverted back to Astra. I then methodically went through disabling each plugin (but not AMP) and checking if the WSOD was still there. I had two wordpress import plugins (not used anymore) and when they were disabled the WSOD disappeared, so I have since deleted them.
I also cleared all caches (I use cloudflare) and changed the settings on the AddToAny Share Buttons plugins so that they would only appear on the bottom of the pages (thought maybe they were part of the issue).
I’m not sure if some of that messing around, or the clearing of the caches, has speeded things up a little as I am now seeing late seventies and up to 85… and I probably shouldn’t complain, but I want to understand why the site is no-longer in the high nineties!
Greatly appreciate your support
OMG, Thank you so much for the prompt and detailed response! I’ll take your advice regarding the preloading and I will check the page speed inights again in a couple of weeks when it’s had a chance to gather some real user data.
Regarding favicon, I actually have no clue what that is LOL! Can I be so bold as to ask where I should look to find that?
Thank you again and Happy Christmas ??
Hi @adamdunnage,
Thanks for your help. I actually found that I had some additional configurations required on the Tag Manager. I couldn’t find it documented anywhere but once events and triggers are configured in tag manager, I can see events in analytics. I will let it sit for the next few days to see if I am catching everything. The tag assistant still doesn’t seem to work on the site but maybe that’s a different issue.
Happy Christmas ??
Hi @adamdunnage
Sorry, I expect I haven’t explained the issue very well.
My website has been running for years with my google analytics property. Earlier this year I enabled GA4 analytics and the tag for GA4 is connected to my analytics property.
I rebuilt my site using AMP only and launched the new site on Thursday. I installed site kit and connected my google analytics property. I was prompted by site kit to also connect the GA4 property when doing the installation. At this point, Tag manager was not connected when looking at site kit connected services.
When I didn’t see any traffic after 24 hours, I did some research and found an article suggesting I should create a tag for AMP analytics. I created the tag in tag manager. I then connected my tag manager in site kit in the connected services tab.
I should add that when I select the option to edit the tag manager connection in site kit, it says the following: Looks like you’re using Google Analytics. Your Analytics property UA-(MyGAID)-1 is already set up in your Google Tag Manager configuration, so Site Kit will switch to using Google Tag Manager for Analytics. (I replaced my Google analytics ID with MyGAID for this post.
Make sense? Have I done things the wrong way around?
Thanks for your help!
