Running NextGen 3.1.6 [Plus] with WP 5.1 and the Gutenberg editor. Having the same problem, there appears to be no way to set the ‘featured image’ to one in NextGen, only upload a new one or choose from WP internal media gallery.

Further into the depths of finding what causes the non-backup …

I switched of several Plugins I installed after the last working backup; didn’t change a thing. After that I switched on WP debugging, which did horrible things to my site but nothing lasting obviously. This way I got some PHP errors, none of which seems to have any [serious] consequences for my site.

While debugging was on WPB2D was running and trying to back up, hence any problems should be noted. Alas, I cannot make heads or tails of it. If you want the error log, just tell me and I sent it.

Eventually got the error log working. I then started a manual backup, which resulted in the now familiar monitoring output [see above]. After about 20 Minutes and three ‘There has been no backup activity for a long time. Attempting to resume the backup.’ I stopped the process, taking a look at the PHP error log file. It’s empty, no errors.

Never got around to get a php-errors.log running. Tried again this morning but am obviously not competent enough to make the file visible to WP, that is, nothing gets written into it and a plugin to easily see the errors tells me the file cannot be found or is inaccessible.

    I used https://digwp.com/2009/07/monitor-php-errors-wordpress/, method one.

    Hello,

I installed the beta version and it, too, started out fine [with a more detailed monitoring log output]:

08:35:32: There has been no backup activity for a long time. Attempting to resume the backup.
08:29:32: There has been no backup activity for a long time. Attempting to resume the backup.
08:23:51: SQL backup complete. Starting file backup.
    08:23:51: Processed table ‘wp_wpb2d_processed_files’.
    08:23:51: Processed table ‘wp_wpb2d_processed_dbtables’.
    08:23:51: Processed table ‘wp_wpb2d_premium_extensions’.
    08:23:51: Processed table ‘wp_wpb2d_options’.
    08:23:51: Processed table ‘wp_wpb2d_excluded_files’.
    08:23:51: Processed table ‘wp_users’.
    08:23:51: Processed table ‘wp_usermeta’.
    08:23:51: Processed table ‘wp_terms’.
    08:23:51: Processed table ‘wp_term_taxonomy’.
    08:23:51: Processed table ‘wp_term_relationships’.
    08:23:51: Processed table ‘wp_ssp_galleries’.
    08:23:51: Processed table ‘wp_posts’.
    08:23:50: Processed table ‘wp_postmeta’.
    08:23:49: Processed table ‘wp_options’.
    08:23:47: Processed table ‘wp_nxs_log’.
    08:23:47: Processed table ‘wp_links_extrainfo’.

As you see, after a few minutes it seemed to have timed out again.

BTW, the files in the backup folder have file names like ‘db357713442-backup-plugins.sql.[long alphanumeric part, looking like hash value]-wpb2d-secret’; the log file, however, is fully readable in a text editor.

The size of the SQL files [v1.6.1]: Core 3.1 MiB, Plugins 50.9 KiB.
Size of the [consolidated?] SQL file [v 1.7]: 3.2 MiB.

Lastly and for good measure, the automated backup is set to Monday morning, 5 a.m., should be a quiet, low-load time for the server.

Those trying to comment weren’t logged in, they aren’t part of my system; and my own test worked well [though I can’t remember if I tested it before or after deactivating ASB].

And here’s No 3, I can’t set one either. I did set several in the past, already with 3.1 but when I tried to put one in last night and again today – from URL – I did not get a featured image though it was still inserted into the post. Thus the slider does not show the image for this post.

    Rather strange.
