Thanks for the example. We found an issue that was causing the load time of that file to be high in certain scenarios. We’ve just deployed a fix on our end and will be monitoring to ensure we don’t see a regression. Please let us know if you are seeing things improve on your end.

However, the script should not be taking 5 seconds to load. Is it possible to share a link where you are seeing the issues, or possibly any screenshots of the network tab showing the slowness?

Is Disqus currently disabled? When it was enabled, were you able to capture any logs from your browser’s consoles?

@joshpaynedesigns I can load that page and see Disqus loading without any errors showing in the console. What browser are you using? If you’re using any extensions, could you try in a different browser in a clean environment (e.g. incognito window in Chrome) and see if you’re still seeing the issue?

Do you have a URL where I can see the issue? I went to the website in the original comment, and I was able to see Disqus load without any issues.

Can you share a link to your site where you see Disqus loading unexpectedly? Are you sure that you are not referring to the Disqus comment count code? The comment count code is designed to load on homepages.

The Disqus plugin is designed to replace the WordPress comments module anywhere where comments are enabled. As @yourwebpro mentioned, you’ll need to make sure comments are enabled on the page where you want Disqus to appear.

If you are still getting the “Unable to connect to the Disqus API servers” please let us know if you are running your WordPress site using a Windows server with IIS (https://www.iis.net/).

There may be an issue that is isolated to this specific server configuration.

Bron, great to know. Thanks for following up. It sounds like the workaround for now is:

1. install 2.83
2. log into Disqus via the plugin
3. upgrade to 2.85

We’re still looking into the underlying problem here, so I won’t mark this topic as resolved yet.

For anyone still experiencing the “Unable to connect to the Disqus API servers” error, please share your plugin debug details, found under Advanced Options in the Disqus plugin.

I just found that grabbing version 2.83 works

Hi all, thanks for reporting these issues. We have not yet identified any underlying causes of the syncing issues, but we’re working with our team to investigate.

Comments made through the Disqus system does sync up with the WordPress database as well. There may be a slight wait before you see the update reflected on the count in WP.

Commenters /do not/ have to register with Disqus to leave a comment, but you are able to make those choices as a blog moderator.
