  • I am the admin for a client’s WP Install and they wanted to see the stats and not be bothered with anything else. I wanted them to visit theirdomain.com to see their stats.

The best I could do was:
    1. sign them up for a username for wp.com with a valid email
    2. add that person as a subscriber to theirdomain.com/wp install
    3. visit the stats plugin page on theirdomain.com and add their email (note for ease of use I made the username on wp.com and theirdomain.com the same)
    4. direct them to wp.com’s stat page via link where they had to log in first and then they could see their stats.

Overall – thumbs down on this convoluted process.

A client brought this issue to my attention today as well. I have no idea how it occurred but I was able to restore their site.

    1. FTP access worked fine. But permissions, deleting or renaming the file did not work. Viewing allowed me to see the site and the issues. A huge “new” file instead of what was supposed to be there.

    2. Hopefully you have a copy of the install, which we had on our local machines. Open the file and copy the contents into your clipboard.

    3. Using the simple web admin tool panel, we run Cpanel, I went into the File Manager on the server.

    4. The File Manager has a text editor, open that, copy+all, and then paste overwriting the old text with the copy from your local version.

    5. Save and test. Ours worked.

    6. CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD FOR THE SERVER ACCESS. While this is not likely the cause, it can’t hurt at all to make a change.

For reference this client is running WP2.02.
Also for reference we have seen random files in many client installs have <br /> and “1” inserted into the code over the past 9 months.

I think vegasgeek – who posted in this thread figured it out. If you can’t log in, try this solution:

    It worked for me.

@vegasgeek – I was having the same issue and you solved it with this:

It was suggested to me somewhere else that I deactivate all my plugins (I did this by moving all the files out of the plugin directory in to a temp directory). I did that, then accessed the admin section, received the link to upgrade the DB, then logged in. Moved the plugin files back in place, and all was right in the world once again.

    Great advice. Thank you.

I wonder were if you had the WP Automatic Upgrade plug-in. I think that might have cause my problems.

More research on this…I tried blowing away my .htaccess file and still no luck.

    One more thing to add…

If you choose a valid username and invalid password you will see the pink box indicating the incorrect password.

If you choose a valid pair or u and pwd you see no box but the page refreshes to the login page.

Yes I have tried playing with cookies thinking that could be the cause.

Long time user, running into the same problem on a 2.6.x.

No username will allow a login in any browser client on multiple platforms/machines.

In the user table I do notice that any change to the user_pass I make and select the md5, is then changed again after my first login attempt. This is probably extra security but just figured I would report it.

    Any help is appreciated.

Ok…I didn’t do anything but keep trying and I found one thing that worked. The far LEFT SIDE of the Available Widgets window apparently is “active” when the window is empty. I was dragging the widget around and finally hit that “magic spot”. It worked.

I realized I don’t have the exact same issue. My issue is in the admin section, where I can drag/drop to reorder the widgets but just not remove any.

I have the same issue as the original poster – can’t get the widgets to move in presentation -> sidebar widdgets. For fun I turned them all “on” by dragging them to the sidebar.

I assume to turn them off you drag and drop to Available Widgets window? There is no other “on/off” toggle.

I do have the scriptaculous libraries in both locations plugins and includes.

Ok…I had to post this…I have been searching for how to bring back the tinyMCE Editor for a few days now. Tried all the regular tricks (delete everything and reinstall).

So I tried @dthought post. Nothing. I figured I wanted to keep searching with a “clean” install so I reverted back to the original line, and I see the WYSIWYG Editor. Odd!

Just posting for those who are searching the forums.

I was hoping to see a solution…I am having the identical issue. I have many other blogs running older ver. of WP 2.02 for example with tinyMCE working just fine.

    Any solutions?

Kaysha…ever create a theme with your random header image? I am looking for one.

Just an FYI – I followed podz article link and was having “identical” error messages. I looked at my phpinfo.php page and the zend site and had the latest version installed.

My data center admin then decided to re-install Zend again and wouldn’t you know it, everything works. Just wanted to post that so people running into issues even with up to date software as a last resort should have their hosting provider or data center try something like this.

They even commented they have not had any other complaints on other machines with identical builds.

It did take me a while to search the board for this information, but I found it eventually. (once again Podz leads the way!)

WOW! I am in awe. Thank you so much podz! First off I am in awe of you for figuring out from my gibberish what the problem was. I read over Turnip’s column and was still pretty lost. Then I entered the hazy world of phpmyadmin for newbie that is like the jungle. Dark and eerie. I found the table, and made the change back. (not including the www) I could not find the ‘home’ value you spoke of but the changing the ‘site_url’ seemed to do the trick. Once again, thank you very much!
