alpahoide – did you see my comment? I would think the fact that URL’s were both so close in format would be “something”. I am racking my brain trying to figure out how to get back my formatting.

I think I am in the same boat. I was happily making some changes (of course finishing touches) to an install and playing with the template editor on my wp-layout.css file when the site choked. It is my only explanation. I hit update and instead of showing me the file it jumped to a “view site” version. But the site lost all the formatting.
I then hit login and the URL I was sent to was:
https://publicwatchdog.org/wp-login.php/wp-admin/wp-admin/wp-admin/wp-admin/wp-admin/wp-login.php instead of the normal one.
I have attempted to copy over a clean version of all the install files and even renamed the index.php and wp-layout.css files to keep my changes. Nothing works. I can not restore formatting no matter what I try. Since the content appears I thought the error might be in the reference to the .css file, but I cross-checked it with another index.php install of WordPress and found them to be identical.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Bingo! Thanks a ton.

Nice One! That is really sneaky! It also worked like a charm!
What did you mean by “I don’t know about empty cats (I can’t read the code), “
I would like to show the categories to be used as navigation. I could write a sample message for each of them, just seems a bit clunky to do.

Of course this thread shows up in the recent posts.

I just uploaded the changes I documented and it all seems to still be working, hopefully I have all the security updates working.
Maybe in the future they will release update files only, or confirm that a update by date option works just fine.

    I did a quick sort by date…
    only:
    wp-login.php
    wp-comments-post.php
    wp-includes/
    functions.php
    functions-formatting.php
    links.php
    version.php
    wp-admin/
    link-manager.php
    options-reading.php
    profile.php
    upload.php
    bookmarklet.php
    categories.php
    edit.php
    options.php
    post.php
    wp-admin.css
    admin-header.php
Had a date of 10/05/2004 – anyone care to comment if we update just these files we will have the “fixes?”
    Thanks.

    First thanks to modz.
For those that have this problem in the future….All I did was delete all the stuff I added to the .htaccess file. Then go ahead and copy the permalinks stuff again and visit the .htaccess file and re-paste it. It all works just fine.

    First off thanks!
WP did generate the .htaccess file and then I went in to change it and messed it up. (as shown above).
I will look at yours and see where the mistake is, and attempt to create a new one.
Do you see any “blatant errors” with the one in the first post of this thread?

    podz…
Thanks again for your quick reply. I tried your “new” command, changed the file and sent it over. But as previously mentioned the .htaccess is corrupted due to a bad copy and paste. If you could just look in a clean .htaccess file and copy and paste that here, I think it might work. I just don’t know what a clean one looks like at this moment.

    Thanks for you suggestions…
Here’s the deal, while I can upload via ftp the info.php. With .htaccess corrupted by my unsavvy cut and paste, I am unable to use http to access anything.
I need to fix the .htaccess file first, then I can go about dealing with the permalinks and other issues.
So can someone help based on my .htaccess file listed above?
