Hi jenster81, as M.K. mentioned, there’s a number of plugins that can accomplish that task.

As an easy way to get started though, you might consider installing the free Membership Lite plugin and trying that out.
    Membership Lite

With it, you could, let’s say, create a free membership level and a paid membership level and then apply restrictive rules to the free membership level, like restricting those members to a particular page on your site.

Doing so might help you to get a better idea for how to setup such a site. Once you have an idea for how that works, you might then take a look at the premium version where you could restrict access to particular menus in the admin area, like the post writing menus.

    Just some thoughts. ??

    Cheers,
    David

A plugin to automate Zeus rewrites seems like the optimal way to go about this given that any changes to htaccess by other plugins would easily be reflected on Zeus hosts as well. I’m looking into this one currently to see how viable it might be to invest some time in the conversion.

    Hi there jhopson,

Care to share the code on this one? Hopefully you might spare some of us 3 days of sleepless nights! ??

    Hello Rich ‘elfin’ Pedley,

You’re right, but it’s the only plugin I currently know of that achieves what the original poster was requesting. Mind you, he mentioned that he took a look into premium options himself and found so such plugin, so I thought it would be especially relevant given the circumstances.

I’m looking forward to more input on this topic myself, free or premium.

    Cheers,
    David

    Hello schwooba,

If you’re still looking for that type of plugin, I think you might find WPMU Dev’s Supporter plugin can do the job.

It can be setup to work alongside the Membership plugin as well.

anndonnelly, have you tried checking the “Broadcast custom fields” on the broadcasted post? I think WordPress handles the Featured Image as a custom field internally. Can’t quite recall. Whatever the case, that one worked for me to resolve the Featured Image not broadcasting.

edwardmindreantre, this plugin is insane. It’s easily a commercial quality plugin and once I get some money starting to come in, you can bet I’ll be donating. I just have to say though, this thing is seriously incredible. There’s nothing like it.

That sounds like an awful lot of work in comparison to just using the Tools > Import/Export option. If you don’t know about it, it imports or exports an xml file of all the blogs posts and pages, all at once. If you don’t want it to import/export pages, you can just delete all the sub-blog’s pages first.

But yeah, your original idea technically should work as well. You’ll just want to make sure not to select the option to have all the child posts deleted when the original posts are deleted.

The thing is, to copy all the posts this way you’ll have to manually go into every post and broadcast it upstream, which is horribly tedious.

I think you should go with the first option. ??

That’s good news. I just started working with the plugin and I’m thrilled as well since it eliminates a bulk of manual processes that would have been required otherwise.

Thanks for posting your own solution. It helps those of us who are doing the same thing, yet it’s something many people leave unattended after they solve. ??

Tynion, instead of hunting through the files to make the adjustment to remove the default admin bar, you could try installing a plugin that does this. Just search in the plugins directory for “remove bar” and you should see one of them toward the beginning of the list. Install it and it should get rid of the default bar.
