  • Good news! I just noticed that this is now part of the roadmap for version 2.1

    https://trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/1820

    Yup! I pretty much posted the same thing about a month ago… (see below)

    ——————————————————

    The codex says: “With the new Pages feature in 1.5, it’s easy to use WordPress for basic content management.” I totally agree and I was delighted to see this feature added. My needs are not extensive enough to justify a full blown CMS package, so having this alongside my blog is absolutely perfect.

    I wondered if I could suggest just taking this concept a bit further by providing options for pages on the editing interface, as we already do for posts? Right now with pages, you are either published or not. There are no other options, so I would suggest:

    * Draft
    * Published
    * Unlisted
    * Private

    Let me explain the “Unlisted” options as I think the rest are self explanatory. This is in effect the <?php wp_list_pages(‘arguments’); ?> with the exclude arguement. This would allow the user to exclude a page from a page list without having to hand edit the style sheet. To have this option available on the fly, along with the others, would open up all sorts of possibilities for WordPress Pages.

    I recommend FileZilla as it is very reliable and will re-attempt automatically any files that don’t transfer successfully.

    spide-mitch, you are essentially there. You might try the WordPress Theme for gallery. Different Gallery themes work better in fixed width WP themes like Kubrick.

    It has taken me a bit to get used to tinyMCE, but I’m getting there. My main gripe is that it does not have a spell checker. 1.5.x didn’t either, but I could use the firefox googlebar spell checker to check my posts, but this does not work with 2.0

    I have seen some hacks on this talked about on this forum, but I generally stay away from customizing WP code much. I look forward to a solution that is part of the regular distro.

    I’m using Gallery 2 with WP 2, along with the WPG2 plugin – https://wpg2.ozgreg.com/index.php/Main_Page The thing I like about it is that the users from WP become users of the gallery, so it is seamless.

    I figured this out right before I saw you posted! (though I didn’t know how to fix it). I by chance uploaded one of my images that had been sized down to like 600×450 and viola! it worked.

    I have tweaked the settings as suggested in the post you linked to and it’s sorted. Cool stuff and thanks again.

    Thanks for your response! To answer your questions:

    1. The pictures have been shot with a 3 megapixel camera, are about 750K in size and I believe the dimensions are – 1536×2048

    2. The files I have been uploading are jpegs from my digital camera.

    3. Examining the upload directory, all I can find is the file I uploaded.

    So I am really puzzled. I can go ahead and insert an image into my posts using this facility, its just there are no thumbnails being generated. All the UI is showing me is the words “No Thumbnail” crossed out, so WordPress is not happy with something.

    As near as I can tell, this has been my only major problem with the upgrade from 1.5.x

    Any advice on how to diagnose this problem with be greatly appreciated. Does WP generate logs somewhere that I can look at?

    I think the addition of the “Pages” to WordPress some time ago was an excellent move. I have read that actually people are using WordPress more and more to even do just basic websites… or at least wrap a lot of content around their blog. (hence the plug to make a page the front page of WordPress)

    So hence my suggestion. It is a pity that with “pages” there are no options. I don’t know the code behind the different status options for “posts”, but I wonder if the concept is very similar and could be used for pages.

    Introducing the three options from posts into pages, along with an “unlisted” status, would make the administration of WordPress as a CMS much more powerful.

    It will be a bit of work, but it isn’t that difficult and it will be well worth it I assure you! ??

    I use Gallery 2… https://gallery.menalto.com/ and use the remote client to upload photos into albums remotely. Very, very nice. I use WPG2 Plugin to integrate it into my site. https://wpg2.ozgreg.com/index.php/Main_Page The great thing about this is that the users from your wordpress site are automatically made users of your gallery. The interaction between the two is very seamless.

    This is a very powerful combination and I am extremely pleased with it.

    Good point. I guess what I am seeing the need for is options for pages like posts currently do. The codex makes this statement: “With the new Pages feature in 1.5, it’s easy to use WordPress for basic content management.”

    I totally agree and it opens up all sorts of possibilites. I would like to see options like:

    * Draft
    * Published
    * Unlisted
    * Private

    I’ll post something over in the “requests” section and see what sorts of responses I get! It could be I’m the only one in the WordPress world that would like to see this! ??

    I checked this out and this will work. How does one submit a suggestion for future development? It would be nice to have an option on the write page that you could tick to keep out of page listings. This would save the editor from having to go to the code and adding another page to the exclude statement every time.

    I did and missed that. Thanks!
