OK – Solving my own problem and posting in case others do a search and it might help them.
I installed WP Content Copy Protection Premium this morning. I deactivated it and the problem went away.
Hope that helps someone else (and I’ll be letting the plugin author know.)
Update – someone told how to simply go into the ftp for my site and rename the plugin folder – that allowed me to get back into my site.
So – I’d like to use this plugin, and I did not set any of the Advanced options – so what is likely to have happened?
THANK YOU!!!! That worked. Again – Thank you!
Thanks- but I don’t have the reflex gallery plugin installed! I looked it up via Google, and there is an exploit with that plugin so I assume it is people trying it on my site.
I installed WP All in One Security and was setting things up in it, looked great, but now I can’t get into my dashboard. Arghhh! And I am enough a dummy I have no idea what I’m doing with trying to go into FTP and deleting things. We are in a PR campaign ramp up, starting to build hits, I hate the thought of downtime, even worse having to rebuild the site while our itunes and other hits are climbing. /panic-mode on

In reply to: Can't get it to validate.I’ve been emailing back and forth with the hosting provider all day on this. In fact, one of the tech support guys gave up and handed it off to someone else. About to go on live chat and talk to someone – I doubt he had the authority to lower Arvixe’s blocker overall, but he may can show me how to whitelist myself. (I noticed in the about tab, FV “is distributed under the MIT license” so I wouldn’t be surprised if they aren’t using the same servers.

In reply to: Can't get it to validate.Good point. I wonder how I can find out the IPs FV is using?

In reply to: Can't get it to validate. That wouldn’t effect feedvalidator.org, though, would it? They don’t use the same IPs as w3c, I assume?

In reply to: Can't get it to validate.Arvixe is the web host. I have had the site set up with no plugins except Powerpress to test it. I am currently adding some plugins back – right now just some very basic ones (broken link checker, etc.)
I find that about half the time when I enter my feed into W3c, I get this:
It looks like this is a web page, not a feed. I looked for a feed associated with this page, but couldn’t find one. Please enter the address of your feed to validate.

128.30.52.88 comes back to MIT, and I saw posts online saying it should be whitelisted because w3c uses it. Not sure why I get that so often when I enter my feed in. Seems random – part of the time I get that, part of the time valid. All other validators other than feedvalidator.org come back valid.

In reply to: Can't get it to validate.I think, since EVERY other feed validator is coming back as valid, I’ll stop wasting time on it. If at some point I find out some podcast gatherer, or iTunes, has an issue, I’ll deal with it then.
One issue I see with https://validator.w3.org/feed/ – it will often come back with valid, then often come back with “this looks like a web site and not an RSS” or something, and when you look at the lines it shows below, you can see it is getting fed back a site with a Captcha and saying the IP 128.30.52.88 is a known spam site. I have to try several times to get it to validate.

In reply to: Can't get it to validate.Thanks. What bugs me – I can insert the RSS feed for friends’ podcast, and they immediately come up as valid. In fact, I tested the feed for a couple of friends who use WordPress/Powerpress for very similar site types, and their podcast feeds validate immediately. So FeedValidator is working for everyone else. I see that other feed validators show my feed as valid, and I suppose I should just stop being so anal – I’m just concerned that once I get going, whatever it is that Feedvalidator.org chokes on will choke other podcast feed gatherers.
SOMETHING is different in my feed than others, even when I uninstall WordPress completely, reinstall, and install only Powerpress and put up one simple podcast. Ugh
