In reply to: [Visual Form Builder] Be careful with this plugin !!Matthew,
Thanks for following up on this. Much appreciated. My post / critique here is to make users of this plugin aware that an upgrade to the Pro Version is not as smooth as it could/should be.
Matthew, we both know how the business works. You give a free version, leave out a few nice features and hope that ppl upgrade to the paid version. That is totally OK.
I am sure that I am not the only one who has used the free version and then one day decided that I need all the features and I am happy to pay for the Pro Version.
What I am not happy about is the experience that I had with this upgrade. I had about 15 – 20 forms on my site which I made with the free version.
And after upgrading to the Pro Version it took me around 3,4,5 hours of work and testing and adjusting so that the forms which were created with the free version worked as desired in the Pro Version of the Plugin.
And that is my critique. I did several similar upgrades from free version plugins or apps to the paid Pro Version and usually I do not need to do any ‘fixing’, testing, adjusting, etc…
Whereas with VFB to VFB Pro I had those experience. Nothing earth-shattering I admit, but 3,4,5 hours of work that I did not anticipate and which I could spend for doing something else.
So for others reading this: Guys I fully endorse both the free as well as Pro version. But I feel that the developers of this plugin should have made the migration process from the free version to the Pro version a more smooth process. Because I am sure there are quite a few folks who will do as me. Use free version first and if all good upgrade to Pro.
Other than that I love working with both the free as well as the Pro version.
Thank you Matthew, once again for following up and for creating this plugin.
Sincerely – Dominik
Good suggestion. But it is a shame that after well over a month still no fix / plugin update is available. It has happened to me again a few days ago. This time for no apparent reason. I every time have to post a job on elance to get someone to clean the database tables for Wordfence and then re-install the plguin… what a shame that this is not fixed!!!!!!!!!!!
Mark,
For your information. After running smoothly for a day or so suddenly it locks again everybody out. Some background info: Nothing did change on the site. No installations of plugins, or new post or anything. Just out of the blue lockout. Some more info:
The send me unlock feature does not work although email address is properly configured and I also looked into my email’s spam folder.
This time I cant do anything other than renaming the WORDFENCE folder in the Plugins folder.
I then tried to delete the Plugin in WP-Admin and that works. But whenever I try to re-install the WF plugin , once I press activate I right away locked out…Any suggestions ?
Thx. Dominik
hi mark,
with your suggestions i have been able to get the plugin working again. thank you !!! however, pls dont take this personal: a rare case it is not!! 3 or 4 cases of this problem within 2 weeks om 3 different sites , using completely different wp themes and different hosts. i would not call this rare!! once again this is not a critic and i am extremely thankful for this wonderful plugin !!!
i will keep ya posted in case i get this kinda trouble again.
once again thank you mark !!!
I would not be as negative as your are. Basically the plugin is working just and fine does a good job. I only get those problems when a site is moved to a new IP address or restored from a backup.
And lets all hope that the author(s) of this plugin can remedy the problem.Cheers – Dominik

In reply to: [WordPress Backup to Dropbox] What happens after a 503 ?I would not say those 503’s are rare. When doing a full back up from scratch of any given medium sized site I get 5-15 such 503s…
I am not critising you here – dont get me wrong. But an incomplete backup is not a backup…
But let me ask yo the following:
Would it be fair to assume that given plugin only backs up files that have changed that the following approach should be fool-prove:Backup a site – whereby, lets say 99.95% of all files get backup correctly. And then run a backup again which would then backup those 0.05% of all files that were skipped at the first time. I am seeing things correctly here ?

In reply to: [WordPress Backup to Dropbox] error logs and percent completedHi Mikey,
Thanks for this. I shall wait until the RC becomes official 1.4 and the plugin then alerts me that a newer version is available.I will then re-activate the plug-in and keep you posted in case my hosting company – who coincidentally is also monitoring this thread – encounters any problems.
Once the plugin runs stable and reliably on all my WP sites I will certainly also make a donation.
Cheers – Dominik

In reply to: [WordPress Backup to Dropbox] error logs and percent completedHi Mikey,
First of all: GREAT and super-useful plugin… BUT: my hosting company is suggesting me to disable the plug in because they say it generates heaps of errors and even brought my site down yesterday…
So I am caught in the middle.. if there is any info I can give to my hosting company as to what needs to be done.
Or if you need any info as to the exact nature of the errors I can try to get it from my hosts.
I am not an expert on WP !! But if I understand it correctly then there should be some log file among my WP files. If it is useful for you then pls. let me know where this file lives and I’d be happy to fwd it to you. Or if u let me know which file my hosting company should be able to provide then I’d try to get it off them.
I really want to continue using your plugin… .
My hosting company also alerted me on the following article: https://thesocialmediaguide.com/2010/07/31/solution-for-wordpress-database-error-mysql-server-has-gone-away-for-query/
I dont know how it relates but I thought it would be no harm to fwd it to you.
Or maybe you have any suggestions or tips.
Thank you – Dominik
