Previously discovered that plain text outgoing emails from GiveWP Core do not respect line breaks when add-on Email Reports is active. Posted bug report to https://feedback.givewp.com/bug-reports/p/the-givewp-core-outgoing-plain-text-email-function-is-broken-when-your-email-rep.
In addition to Email Reports add-on breaking plain text email sent by GiveWP Core, I find that PDF Receipts add-on causes the same problem, but only affects the Donation Receipt generated by GiveWP Core. Specifically, if Donation Receipt is set to plain text and PDF Receipts add-on is installed -and- active, Core Donation Receipt no longer respects plain text line breaks.
The current status us that if plain text emails are desired to be sent by GiveWP core, Email Reports add-on will cause Core to not respect plain text line breaks; and PDF Reports add-on will further cause Core to not respect plain text line breaks in Core plain text Donation Receipt emails.
Second bug report posted to Canny today for PDF Receipts problem found.
For the community:
– Email Reports add-on version 1.1.4 causes Core to not properly send line breaks in plain text emails globally
– PDF Receipts add-on version 2.3.11 causes Core to not properly send line breaks in plain text Donation Receipt emails
Thanks!
Thanks, Rick!
For community benefit, since the solution turned out to be in your public documentation:
On May 12, 3:29pm PST, Alex told me that “GiveWP has documentation on this here: https://givewp.com/documentation/core/settings/emails/meta-email-tags/. The information on the Form Field Manager is about 3/4 down the page.”
Thanks!
Closing ticket. Direct response received from Rick May 13, 2:31pm PST:
Thanks for the update. I can confirm the issue happens when the Email Reports is active on my test site as well.
Our development team will a look at this. Issues like this that are not preventing donations or have a simple workaround are generally prioritized at the end of an 8-week development cycle and then tested and released. That means it can be up to 10 weeks for issues like this to be resolved.
Any updates moving forward will be posted on the feedback site.
Rick,
For community benefit, I’m re-opening this ticket, simply as a flag so you take note. Please close the ticket after you have noted.
While I understand that the www.ads-software.com support is for the GiveWP Core, I find:
The GiveWP Core outgoing plain text email function is broken when your Email Reports add-on is installed -and- activated. Installed and deactivated, no problem.
Specifically, plain text outgoing emails from GiveWP Core do not respect line breaks when add-on Email Reports is active. Upon investigation of this phenomenon, I find that your Email Reports add-on sends in mandatory HTML; plain-text Reports are not an option. Thus, it seems that the Email Reports add-on is tricking GiveWP Core into unusual behavior when sending plain-text emails via Core.
I recommend you replicate to verify my findings. For all GiveWP Core users who might read this thread before the bug is fixed, don’t use the Email Reports add-on if you intend to send plain-text emails via GiveWP Core.
I have posted to Canny (your Feedback portal at feedback.givewp.com) for proper tracking.
Thanks!

Hi Rick,
Thanks! Marking this ticket as complete and continuing directly with your paid support. Have a great day!
Hey Rick,
All set. Did this with Snippets:
function override_form_template_styles_with_inline_styles() { wp_add_inline_style( 'give-sequoia-template-css', ' div.details { display: none; }
Closing this ticket.
I only want to hide it on the output after the donation completes. That doesn’t mean I don’t need to collect the information during donation, I just don’t want to display it in the Billing Address of the Donation Details section in the multi-step Give form. What is the CSS attribute of of that element? I already have Snippets installed with other css tweaks to the multi-form; just need to add hiding the address info that’s outputted.
Thanks!
Hi Rick,
I apologize if my question was confusing; I’m not looking to move the billing address fields to a different place within the form, I’m requesting its css attribute so that I can hide it.
Thanks!
Rick,
Thanks for the reply!
First, seems we might have uncovered some inconsistency: whereas you are saying that {all_custom_fields} does nothing, I find that while Form Field Manager is installed, Settings — Emails — Offline Donation Instructions says “{all_custom_fields} – This tag can be used to output a donation form’s custom field data created through Form Field Manager.” Not critical, just not consistent.
I must have asked my questions in a confusing way, resulting in no answer to what would be the behavior when temporarily disabling Form Field Manager with regard to additional fields added to Give forms — no big deal at this point — I find that disabling/re-enabling does not affect additional fields added to Give forms. Unfortunately, I also find that Form Field Manager is not the culprit causing GiveWP to ignore line breaks in outgoing emails.
Q: You said you can’t replicate it on your test site. Did you attempt and find no problem, or were you not able to attempt to replicate?
Thanks!
Update: I see that collection of billing details can be disabled in Settings — Payment Gateways — Offline Donations, but in my application I do require collection of the donor’s address (billing details); I just don’t want to display it in the Billing Address of the Donation Details section in the multi-step Give form.
Thanks!
Hi Matheus,
Regarding the extra Donor Dashboard pages, I deleted them and — like you said — I see in Donations — Settings where I would designate the page for the Donor Dashboard along with the required shortcode to be present on that page. Problem solved, there; all clean now.
As far as the permalinked page, there are only a few simple things I need to achieve here. They are:
– Make css tweaks to the give form presented on the permalinked page. Specifically, column width and font size of the Give form, and page background. The column width and font size has previously been taken care of by you (thanks again) in Snippets for the Give multi-form only, but that doesn’t apply to the permalinked Give form.
So, I just left Amanda a voice mail:
1. I think I’m asking my question in a confusing way, that has possibly led to multiple threads about this issue. Sorry about that. Also, I think the way I worded my question on this topic has has maybe led you to think I’m asking for more than I actually am where, on one occasion, it was no problem for you to respond with some quick help for applying css changes to the multi-form through Snippets, but now you’re telling me to hire a developer, when in actuality I’m asking the same question as before but for the permalinked Give form.
2. Continuing to look into this, I get the feeling there’s a method to copy a single page file over as another filename, on my server, such that GiveWP would then use that php file to show content for the permalinked give form. It looks like https://givewp.com/documentation/developers/theming-with-give/theming-the-single-give-page/ talks about this, but I’m still confused.
3. Because my GiveWP multi-form css has been slightly tweaked for field width and font size, thanks to your previous help here on www.ads-software.com, I believe once I understand how to get GiveWP to look at a static php file to generate the permalinked Give form, applying CSS to that should be straightforward. Specifying the background color should be no problem at this point.
4. The kind of help I think I’m looking for might be as simple as, “ok, so on your server copy file x.php as y.php, then do [something] to get GiveWP to use that file for its permalinked Give forms; then do whatever you want with y.php, and to apply css to it just do [this].”
Thanks! Sorry about accidentally making this overly complicated!

Hi Matheus,
No; I’m talking about the fields in the give form only, not anything to do with other add-ons or plugins. What are the css attributes to change the field text color in the givewp donation forms?
Thanks!
Within the URL you gave, the link to the file on Github gets 404.
I understand your response — and thank you very much for it — are you able to help with some specific steps I should take if all I wanted to do was make the page background a specific color, but leave it mostly virgin otherwise?
Thanks!
Hey Matheus,
Thanks for the reply! From a previous support req a few weeks ago I installed Snippets and have the following modification to the Give multi-step form, to increase field width and reduce font size to achieve the desired result.
form[id*=give-form] .give-donation-amount input.give-amount-top {
width: 250px !important;
font-size: 35px !important;
}However, the technique only addresses the multi-step form and I need to make the same change to the Give form thrown by permalink. No WordPress page exists for the permalinked page, and I’m still pretty lost on how to see the same result on the static page. Do you think I could continue asking for specific advice to make the specific change shown above to the Give form thrown by permalink?
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply! Seems the default — at least while using Divi — is already what you said, the permalinked page being blank with the exception of the header, menu, give form, and footer.
If this is closest to the desired effect, would there be a convenient way to specify a background color for (in the case of Divi) div#et-main-area? It’s worth noting that no WordPress page exists for these permalinked pages presenting the Give form; the only WordPress pages that exist are:
– Donation Confirmation — Donation Success Page
– Donation Failed — Donation Failed Page
– Donation History
– Donor Dashboard
– Donor Dashboard
– Donor Dashboard
– Donor Dashboard — Donation History PageAlso, as a separate related question, four Donor Dashboard pages exist with page IDs 5613, 5791, 6307 and 6965 respectively as listed. I have a feeling that the first three are not linked to GiveWP and can be deleted, though I’m not sure how so many came to exist. I do not intend to use the Donor Dashboard feature. Q: is it safe to delete those first three Donor Dashboard pages?
Hope to hear back on deleting those possibly erroneous pages, and on making the background color in the permalinked page presenting the Give form.
Thanks again!
