Hi, Kmessinger, I used to use that WordPress.com stats plugin, but it stopped working, and searching here revealed several threads saying that you had to install Jetpack if you wanted to get stats from wordpress.com, that the one you link to above was no longer valid.

Both are now currently disabled on my site, because neither work.

I don’t see anything about NGGallery on the hotfix link…? Looks like it updates bugs in the core system?

Update: I’m finding other problems as well. I attempted to reactivate NGGallery, for instance, and find that not only does it still break the visual editor, it no longer works at all. All I get is a vertical listing of thumbnails (not how it’s set to display), and clicking on each leads to the photo itself in the same tab, but none of the normal navigation tools, the slideshow does not work, etc. I tried installing another photo gallery plugin (1 Flash Gallery) and cannot create a gallery with it at all, I fill in settings and click Save and it sends me an error message that /index.php/404 cannot be found on the server (among other things).

Then, this morning, I received the notification about the hack into various plugins (none of which are the ones causing my problems, nor do I have any of the suspect ones installed) and I’m wondering if this is wider spread than initially thought, and my issues may be related to this backdoor. If it’s just a coincidence that they appeared around the same time, it’s an odd one.

And thank you mdevaney, but not everyone is a plugin programmer.

I don’t find any other posts about those particular plugins connected to the visual editor breakage. However, each of them, when I re-enabled just that one, caused the editor to disappear again. It works fine when those three are disabled. This is only happening since the 3.1.3 upgrade (reinstalling WordPress did not help).

    Thanks for responding, Andy.

This is in reference to the most recent version of the plugin (1.81) and

I found quite a few others posting the same problem, and discovered a number of people saying that by installing “Jetpack”, their stats were restored. Installing Jetpack appears to have automatically deactivated the stand-alone WordPress.com Stats plugin and the stats do work once Jetpack is installed. I don’t really need the additional features of Jetpack, so it’s a bit of an extreme “fix”, but at least I have my stats back.

Had the same issue when trying to upgrade to 3.0 automatically. Disabling JUST the NextGen and NextGen ImageFlow plugins solved the problem. I didn’t have to deactivate all of them or change my theme.

I’m glad you posted this, I like the site design very much. I found it easy to navigate and quite attractive. I did have some trouble sending you a message via your feedback form … the status indicator kept cycling and it appeared that the message never sent. Maybe just a momentary server glitch?

I’ve also set up WordPress as a CMS at https://www.gazehound.com — the site is set with static pages and there is a multi-topic blog as well. I did start with a free theme and adapted it to suit my needs. It’s my first attempt at remaking my own website with WordPress, and I’m glad I chose this system to do the job.

Update: a system reboot appears to have cleared the NextGen gallery problem, but the native WordPress gallery is still not working. I’m happy with NextGen for now, but thought this might best stay where it is, in case others are having Gallery issues as well.

Again, 2.8.1 seemed fine yesterday on my site (https://www.gazehound.com), but today when I upload photos, there is no option for Gallery in the tabs at the top after going through the Show/Edit routine as usual.

AND at around 3pm eastern time my site went down completely, the Error Establishing thing now appears complete.

I’ve got a support ticket in to my host.

    Good luck, all!

I’ve also certainly got various issues playing against the site speed, but disabling that one plugin did seem to help “some”. It may be more because it calls out to post data from another server than anything. ??

I’m also now getting “Error establishing a database connection” errors intermittently.

I think I may be experiencing a double whammy — both something in WP 2.8 and something on my host server acting against each other.

For the past hour or so, in three different browsers, I’ve been disabling one plugin at a time. The only one that seems to have made SOME difference is WP-Stats-Dashboard. The pages are still slower than “normal” to load, but at least they are loading in all three browsers.

Does anyone else have that plugin installed, and if so, do you find it makes any difference?

Philonous, I also received a reply back from my host company that their mySQL platform is working fine. The tech who emailed me, in fact, has a WordPress 2.8 site running on the same server that is not having any speed problems.

I have not tried either of the beta versions, I’m still running on “straight eight”. ?? It sounds like the bog-down happened right around the same time for both of us.

YES. And it seems to be getting worse as time goes on. Today it’s taking me three or four refreshes to get any page to load at all, and admin/dashboard is agonizing as well.

When I first upgraded, all seemed fine. It seems that as time progresses, however, this problem continues to get worse.

I’ve also checked with my host to see if they’re having server issues, or whatever, that might affect the mySQL end of things, but I really don’t think so, as I’m seeing others report the same problem with 2.8.

https://www.gazehound.com , should anyone like to check things from their own ISP.

Yes, I’d looked initially and did so just now, and see what you mean. I wish I could help, I was just hoping a “sort of related” problem might offer some ideas.

    Hope you find the solution.

Your photos are really excellent, by the way. You have such an artistic eye, congratulations.

Thanks to Andrew Ozz, who took a look at my site, the problem was discovered to be an incompatibility with a pdf generator plugin. Deactivating that plugin solved my version of the gallery problem.

I have yet to try to create a new gallery, however … so am not sure if this is similar to what the original poster is experiencing.

PS, you can see what I mean if you go to

And click on Nastasi Family Pets in the left sidebar, and then any of the individual animals’ names.
