Oops I just had to look a little closer. Sorry to waste anyones time. I just had to change home to url and then it works great!

I used the_excerpt() and after a little bit of research I got it to do exactly what I needed it to. In order to customize the “read more” look I followed the link @alchymyth suggested:

In order to allow images to be displayed I had to edit the formatting.php file with some help from this site:

I tried using the same call as the_content and for the_content_rss and neither seemed to change the default setting

you should post your solution so others with the same problem can solve it.

Did you FTP the wordpress folder to your website or its contents to your main website directory? If you have not done this already: Take the contents of the wordpress folder (not the “wordpress” folder itself) and upload it to the location your host tells you to place your files. This should solve your problem.
