I just called Yahoo Business web hosting support (800-318-0783). It was pretty unsatisfying. Yahoo is working on the problem (updating MySQL server to 5.0), but it will take 1-2 months to get solved. The update must be done on the back end by Yahoo, it cannot be done by user schmucks like me. And it can’t be done on an individualized basis (the tech support person with whom I spoke put me on hold and tried to update me, and then informed me that her supervisor said it must be done on a broader basis behind the scenes at Yahoo). They (Yahoo) have gotten “numerous” contacts from customers about wanting to upgrade MySQL server to 5 in light of WordPress 3.2, and they are giving it a “priority”.

I have had a number of problems on my blog caused by Yahoo’s limited support of WordPress, and this simply gives me more motivation to find a different hosting service. Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks to esmi and RJ-Dev. I have sent an email to Yahoo asking/complaining about this problem. I’ll also update here on what I find out. I guess I’ll look for a new hosting service. I have had a lot of frustrations with Yahoo on their idiosyncratic and limited support of WordPress.

    @mattyrob:
    1. I set the “number of recipients per email” to 1, and I later set it to 25, and both numbers appear to have worked.
–However, the number that I change that setting to does not get retained when I go back to the Settings–Subscribe2 page. I have tried this on 3 browsers (Firefox4, IE9, and Chrome).
–At “”Restrict the number of recipients per email to (0 for unlimited):” I click “edit” and that opens “edit revert”. I type in 1 (and I later typed in 25 for another test), then I clicked “Update” and the number field showed “1” and both times (when I typed 1 and 25), after I clicked in the area to create a new post, and then came back to the Subscribe2 settings page, that number was 0 again.
–I have bought the manual for Subscribe2, and from my understanding of the field you are talking about, entering “1” would send the post to only a single email recipient at a time. Is that correct? It seems like 1 is an inappropriate setting, and I thought the preferred setting was “0” which I understand to mean that the email can be sent to an unlimited number of recipients (subject to limitations imposed by the host). I guess I don’t understand you advice to set that to 1.

    2. On the second item in your message, its hard for me to understand what you are saying, but I looked at my admin account email address from which these emails are sent, it it is definitely on the same domain as my blog (and was when Subscribe2 was working before I installed WordPress 3.1).

In response to MattyRob’s post directed to me (@Drew):
I installed the “development version” of Subscribe2 and made sure subsribe2 was changed to subscribe 3 (because my host is Yahoo business). All subscribes appeared.

I then posted a new message on my blog and Subscribe2 did not send the email to my subscribers, with the exception I describe below. So it is still not working (I explained the history in more detail in my post above).

To be more precise about what happened after installing the “development version”: Subscribe2 sent 2 identical copies of an email to my email address (but to none of my 20 other non-registered subscribers), using the email template in the Subscribe2 settings. I believe the duplicate emails were sent to me because I am the only registered user in the Subscribe2 subscriber list in settings. For all of my “public subscribers” in my Subscribe2 list of subscribers, they did not receive any email.

So I think Subscribe2 sent the automated email to only a registered subscribers, and not to any public subscribers.

Before installing WordPress 3.1, Subscribe2 worked properly, sending the automated email to all of my subscribers.

    I’d appreciate any suggestions.

I am having a very similar problem with WordPress 3.1 and Jetpack 1.1.1. I get this error message:
“Jetpack could not contact WordPress.com: register_http_request_failed. This usually means something is incorrectly configured on your web host.
error setting certificate verify locations: CAfile: /usr/local/share/certs/ca-root-nss.crt CApath: none”
My host is Yahoo Business. I got this message about 3 days ago, then removed the plugin (deleting the files), reinstalled the plugin about 30 minutes ago, and got the identical message.

    Any suggestions? Thanks very much.

    MattyRob:
I copied the development version files into my WordPress installation, and I will see later today whether that solves the problem.
Since I am not familiar with how to install a plugin when it is not through the WordPress plugin area, let me explain that I did this with your development version:
    1. I unzipped the files.
    2. I Opened FileZilla
    3. I copied the Subscribe2 folder in plugins in my current installation (at my host, Yahoo Business) to my hard drive
    4. Then I deleted the contents of the subscribe2 subfolder in plugins in my WordPress installation
    5. Then I copied the files from the unzipped development version on my hard drive to the empty subscribe2 subfolder in plugins on my WordPress installation (at that point, ll of my subscribers disappeared from the settings in WordPress)
    6. Then in subscribe2.php I edited the table_prefix line to change subscribe2 to subscribe3 (then all of my subscribers reappeared in the WordPress settings)

Thanks very much, and I’ll have time later today to post a blog article to see if the email is automatically sent to subscribers.

I am having a similar problem after installing WordPress 3.1. Up until then, Subscribe2 was functioning, but only after I got the tip, because my host is Yahoo Business, to edit subscribe2.php to change “subscribe2” to “subscribe3” in this line:
    $this->public = $table prefix . “subscribe2”;
After I made that change, subscribe2 worked in sending emails.

Then I updated to WordPress 3.1 and all of my subscribers disappeared in the Subscribers settings in Tools. So I then made the change again to the line in subscribe2.php. My subscribers reappeared, but still no luck on the emails being sent. Then I deleted subscribe2 as a plugin in the WordPress plugins area, and I deleted the subscribe2 folder in plugins. Then I reinstalled subscribe2 and when I made the change again to subscribe2.php my subscribers reappeared. But still no luck on subscribe2 sending the emails it is supposed to send.

So I currently have subscribe2 completely nonfunctional, at least from the standpoint of sending emails. Any suggestions? Thanks very much.

    Yes I do.

I’m not sure what you mean by this sentence: “what do you have as plugin folder is still that blank folder.” I still have the original plugin folder renamed as “plugins.hold”, and I created a new folder names “plugins” and that is completely blank.
–Thanks very much for your responses.

I renamed the theme folder for the theme I am using, and it did not fix the problem. I renamed the following folder which contains the theme I use:
    /wp-content/themes/adclerum
I renamed the folder to x_adclerum.
Actually, my problem is now worse. Before, my home page of my blog would at least appear, but now it won’t.
–Any further suggestions? Thanks very much.

Thanks very much. I’ll rename the theme folder this evening at home when I have more time. Thanks again.

Yes, I created a blank plugin folder when I renamed the prior one. That is part of what is puzzling me. I would have thought that would have prevented the plugins from loading, so that the problem would get solved.

When you suggest renaming the theme, is that to say I should rename the folder that the theme is located in?

    Thanks for your suggestions.
